3onitsway - Beth sounds very similar to your sister and its apparently very common in teenagers. What a shame for her almost getting to the 1yr mark, but better to be safe. We are hoping even if it takes a while to get her sorted she has a while to go before shes 17 and able to learn to drive - even then her dad works on the trains so she gets free ( 1st class) travel anyway so thats not too bad for her. Thanks for the advice - much appreciated.:p

Eta - DD1 was very much into brand names at one point but am pleased to say Primark is now the 'IN' place to buy clothes :) only problem is the nearest one is 1hr 1/2 away!

Oh forgot to say earlier - I made my claim on the A&L credit card lifestylr policy or whatever they call it... basically when you get married, have a baby, loose someone etc you can claim and they pay 5% of your balance for 3 months - so for £30 a month for 5 months they will now pay out over £650 in total mwarharharhar

Elle - hugs and hang in there :)

Oh Elle, I'm so sorry, I agree with Caz though, it wont hurt to give it a go. Sam's sucking reflex came in about 3 weeks after he was born (34 weeks).
Also as MM said you can express. How is his reflux? Refluxers are nearly always better on breast milk.

Also, one Dr said Sam showed signs of ROP retinopathy of prematurity but when they checked again 3 weeks later they said it had improved a little and again 3 months later it had completely resolved itself. The consultant said that 90% of them just clear up on their own so fingers crossed. I'm actually an optician and I've checked him out and I cant see any signs but they want to check him again next month to be sure. Anyway, they do actionman, bob the builder and spiderman glasses these days!! How cool is that!! and there is always contact lenses when they're older.
Hope you have a nice cwtsh with him tonight.

Roo is being a grump again - and can't find any affordably air con units round where we live DRAT! Anyone found any online at a reasonable price?
I'm dying for a cool shower but have to wait till hubby gets in - then shower and into the hot kitchen to cook dinner - joy!
Baby finally sleeping in her swing - hoping we get a little more sleep tonight but not counting on it grrrr why does she need so little sleep when I need much more!
Tomorrow we're off to hospital to have her hips checked for clicky hip - as my sister had it and Roo was breach for so long she automatically landed on the "to be checked" list - at least hubby will be back in time for it with any luck :)

    Hi all..

I've not had such a great day today.. :o

Still teary now.. Going back in later with OH and really hoping Rhys is awake so we can play and do something fun..

Sorry to be so down.. so much for me being the upbeat one! :(

Elle hun - teary days and worries about the future are all part of being a mum - not wanting to play down your worries but there is not one of us here who hasn't had these days...and most of us are still probably having them (I know I do).
They don't really know what Rhys will be able to do or not do...it's great that they keep testing him but only time will actually tell. Look how far he has come already.
Make sure you take the time to have a good weep though - we all need it sometimes, just to release some hormones - it's good for the soul ;)

She gets a free bus pass - but not sure if thats a local thing! She's got a good few years to get herself sorted out before she needs to worry about driving. (I think Sis secretly likes the not driving bit - its never her turn to drive on nights out! :rotfl:)
I have that pretty feeding one...it is now grey with red spots and is not so pretty :rotfl::rotfl:

Mental note to remember to put my pretty new bra in with the whites washing!

Can anyone recommend a book which lists all the milestone movements babies make? I know it'll probably have "average ages" in it but I don't want it for that - we've been told Rhys will probably be slower in his development - I just want to make sure I know what I'm looking out for. Would you believe, I do actually have a GCSE in Child Development but I can't remember the important stuff now! :(
Have you been given a little book by the MW/HV? mine is a red book called "Child Health Record" its what they write all the jabs, weights, hearing tests etc in but it has a list of all the achivements with space to put when they do them so not even any pressure of what they 'should' be doing ;)
The baby whisperer is a great book (I lurk here :)) It's how I managed to get DD sleeping through the night, by 7months she would STILL only sleep, If i bounced her to sleep in her baby bouncer:o

From what I recall, It's the Pick up/ Put down routine, and basically you pop baba in bed, go through your nightly routine, whatever that may be, go out and leave baby too it, when baby starts crying, you go in, pick them up until they stop crying and put them back down straight away, or even just reassure them, stroke their hands/heads, whatever their fancy is (DD's was her eyebrows!) Basically you are reassuring your child that you WILL come back, took us about 3 days, and I felt SOOOOO mean, and very tired! But she got the hang of it and never looked back (though now I wish she'd stop pleasing herself and climbing into my bed when she hears OH get up for work, ramming all her toys and drink bottle into my face, knicking the covers and farting against my leg)

I'm p'd off with Tesco!! They have a fan that says "now half price £6.49" but still shows as £12.99 on the price and doesn't reduce in the basket, checkout etc.

Make sure you have spare clothes for Roo when you go for the scan - Chris was soaked from the jelly when he had his;)

We went to boobie group today :D was nice but a bit quiet to start with but we had a selection of fruit juices, strawberries, grapes and a box of celebrations. Chris was having fun making everyone have a drink of water because he like to press the levers on the cooler :p Edgar was well behaved and fed nicely while we were there  as usual everyone was cooing over both of them *beams with pride*
Afterward I took Chris for his hair cut and they were shut!! Who's ever heard of a hairdresser that is shut all day Wednesday but is open on a monday  I'm quite tempted to just shave his head because the poor baby has got a really hot head under all that hair!

elle give it a go! look at feelie and toby! they managed to BF after weeks and weeks of trying. Rhys is a little fighter and you are a fab mummy, i bet the stuborness of the two of you can/will make it work. i dont understand how she can make a decision on 1 visit? if its what you want to do then give it all you can xx

In my research, I found that our situation wasn't that unusual. A lot of babies manage to 'get' breastfeeding when they reach thier due date, others take longer. I spoke to one lady who had very premature babies, and they managed to get breastfeeding sorted at 4.5 months. I've known other who've got it after huge problems.

The main reason it doesn't happen more often is that you've got to keep the milk supply up. If you keep the milk there Elle, there is always hope. I'd stick with it, possibly seek a second opinion? If his fluid intake needs monitoring, what about test weighs? Her opinion seems conflicting with what everyone has been saying, so I'd try and find someone to ask about it.
