ETA - i think i want to try the implant, i was on the pill when i fell PG with seth so i dont really trust it anymore!

If it's the same hormone as the injection (Depo) then be wary... I have been on the depo twice and gained weight at a worrying rate both times after a while - and it's a nightmare to shift! I don't know if they can remove the implant if it disagrees with you - if they can't then I'd try something else to be honest... bad enough being stuck with 3 months worth in your body let alone something longer if you react to it by gaining weight (and I'm talking 2 stone in 3 months btw... not a few pounds)

ETA: you can get the exact same hormone in pill format btw - my advice is to speak to your GP and try the pill format for at least 6 months first before going on the depo... The "no periods" is bliss - I have extreemly heavy and painful periods (like come near me and I'll have to kill you and then I'll fall over from blood loss myself kinda heavy) - which is why they stuck me on it a second time despite the weight gain the first time. I ended up doing a food diary to convince the GP I wasn't stuffing my face but was infact eating a very healthy diet (slimming world at the time lol) before they agreed it WAS my injection causing it...
Whilst it's a great thing to have no periods then I wouldn't recommend the jab unless there was a definite medical reason to not use another method...

when i went for my 8 week check up the doctor said she wouldnt really consider giving the depo to "someone of a responsible age" (how exactly would she judge that?!) unless they had it when they were younger and got on fine with it as its too many hormones all at once going into your system, but the implant would be better as its more of a slow release thing  TBH i'm wary of anything, i love seth but i really really dont want to have another baby, and i really want to get some weight off before i go on anything as its so hard to lose weight once you're taking contraceptive hormones :(
OH will have to keep bagging up for now :rotfl:

Though I'm with you, mine was so bad getting put in I said I wanted to be knocked out when it was time to remove it!
I was knocked out when they put it in, they were doing investigations with the option of giving me one if that was appropriate. Another few reasons not to want to think about having it out ...

I believe they can, although they don't always like doing it, especially if they don't think you're responsible. ;)

they can remove it but as its the most expensive method of contraception they prefer not to ;)

  • I am all set and ready to go on the combined pill but we are still awaiting a monthly visitor in the MFD household

3 - sorry to hear about your friend.

MacSmiler - 5 months is a bl00dy good achievement even with no problems. Well done to you an LO :T

Benjamin has a black sheet over his curtains tonight to see if that will stop his 4.30am-wanting-to-play waking habit. I'm expressing early tonight so I can be in bed at a decent hour anyway..bed at 12.30am and up at 4.30am does not make for a happy and effective mummy.

MIL is coming over tomorrow afternoon whilst Benjamin and I are at Posh Booby Club to do my ironing whilst FIL potters in the garden...gotta love 'em :A :D

We have black, black-out blinds and black curtains in the bedroom - and she still wakes up at 4am - its her special wake up time!

If you ever get fed up of your MIL, can I have her please! Mine wouldn't dream of coming over to do the ironing - or anything else other than holding the baby and feeding the other two sweets!

Contraception! I really don't know what to do. I've been on every pill possible since I was 17 - and have suffered every side effect possible - and also got pregnant with the first two while on the pill. (antibiotics didn't help the first time!).
I've had a coil - possibly the non-hormone one as the hormones don't agree with me - and I got even heavier, longer periods every two weeks!
I had the injection and got all of the side effects that came with the pill and also put on a lot of weight.
Funnily enough, i've had that old familiar back/tummy ache today and mentioned to OH that my dreaded monthly mentalist curse might be coming back. He said, I thought so, that's why you've been snappy and picky the last few days. Who, Me? How rude.

So i suppose we should discuss what we're going to do. Especially as he came in from work and asked 'do you fancy a game of hide the sausage later?'. He's so juvinile sometimes. :D

I didn't want to go down the route of black out blinds if I could help it, I would rather he just learn to sleep when it is light - I'm pretty sure our parents never bothered with all this extra stuff!! But then again, 4.30am bleary eyes just do not do justice to Benjamins beautiful smile :D

My MIL is lovely :D she thinks I am a bit 'progressive' but she respects what I am doing (to my face at least!!).

She did put me to shame yesterday though when she looked after Benjamin AND did some of my mountain of ironing :o I had been hiding behind the baby excuse for ages!!

Although, if the net went off for a day or two I would be MUCH more productive :rotfl:
