I bought 2 shower curtains from Asda (87p each) but didn't use them!
All I used was Boots maternity mats (Highly recomend those - even the MWs were impressed as they are larger than the pampers/incontinence pads)
It only got messy for me when my waters went and I was on the bed at that point, we had a cheap duvet from poundstretcher and an old already stained cover on it so weren't too concerned when it got covered in mec stained waters as we just chucked it afterwards, I also ended up getting mec waters and blood all over my lovely brand new white towels but they washed fine:D

oh also I had my nickers on for ages with a pad on so if my waters had gone while I was up and about it probably wouldn't have made much mess.

skintchick - I had boots maternity pads and a waterproof but cotton topped sheet from dunelm mill for the bed. Saying all that I just wanted to be in my own bed to labour! Didn't get to give birth at home in the end so not much mess to clear up! Good luck and my best advice is to be flexible (with the plan not necessarily physically!) :rotfl:x

My midwife recommended thick cardboard boxes opened up, for the reason you suggest, that anything waterproof might have been slippery. Can be covered with an old sheet for comfort.

Thanks everyone! Boots mat pads it will be then.

r.mac - I am flexible as I am possibly breech which could mean a complete rethink depending on presentation, and all I really want is as natural as possible and a live baby at the end, so I'm planning for best case but accepting there may also be worst case.

I shall slink back off to preggy thread till my time comes to join you - not too long to go now! :D

I don't have a changing bag, I just stick a couple of nappies and bags inside that changing mat that came with the free bag from boots, fold it in half with the travel wipes case in the middle and stick it in my handbag.

I have hand gel in my bag anyway as the sinks are always too high for millie to wash her hands when we are out.

You handwashing ladies must be totally mad! Our washing machine is on usually twice a day. If I was handwashing all of that, i wouldn't have time to do anything else, like eat or sleep!!
I did it in the bath by trampling and OH did most of the wringing so it wasn't as taxing as it sounds.
Milk - we've gone a full week without bottles. Any idea how much is a good amount to have in the freezer? I'll only be giving the very occassional bottle. I've got 4000ml in the freezer and pump 50 to 100ml a day. Does that seem alright? I like to pump a little to ensure my supply stays up, and so I'm ahead of ds to make growth spurts easier. Does that sound alright or should I pump more?
At one point I worked out I had about 3 weeks supply in the freezer. I think now I have around 200 oz left (just done a conversion and that's about 6000ml). I'm still using it for Alice's porridge.

[/FONT]She came into the bathroom last week and saw me removing a used sanitary pad. She just looked at me really said and said "awwww no. Mam's done a poo in knickers." I said it was ok and she left the bathroom with a tut and a sigh and I could hear her muttering "what a naughty Mammy. No sweets for Mam today" :rotfl:
Alice always says, "Mummy poo pants", whenever I'm cleaning my sanitary pads - I suppose it's the nearest word they know to describe it.

    nappy bags x 2
    sun hat

I usually have several billion bags as I sometimes need one for pee soaked clothes, and it's always something I forget to replace!

I tend have a sun hat in the bag if she's wearing a wooly one or vice versa, stupid unpredictable weather!

I figure old receipts and bus tickets, empty teething powder packets and a rather elderly fuffly rice cake are optional! :o

Thanks Tine, I shall get onto it as soon as I can... Although hubby just informed me that they're covered in aphids! How do I get rid of those?!

Elle, nappies and a couple of changes of clothes is all you need really... Oh and wipes or cotton wool...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Hats off to you with five kids!

Standard contents of our change bag in no particular order are:
    nappies
    wipes
    flannels
    muslins
    travel potty
    full change of clothes
    plastic bags
mini pot of sudocrem we got from bounty
    plastic pants
    nappy pins
    handkerchiefs
    change mat
    pot of raisins
    pot of decaffeinated tea bags
    lip balm
    ballpoint pen
    paper hankies
    one washable sanitary pad

We also keep some muslins, wipes, disposable nappies, dates and a change of clothing in the car so if we're just going to the supermarket we don't need to take the change bag.
