Lol! We've just been being very pleased with ourselves, having got the baby down for a post-lunch nap with zero crying or trouble, and relaxing in the sunny garden beaming... when, 20 mins after he went down, we hear a drum beating in the distance.

The sound builds and builds, and eventually I go out front to see what's going on... there is an entire brass band marching down our street towards us, right by the baby's window.
We're torn between tears and laughter at the comic nature of the nap-ruining... it marches right by at massive volume and baton spinning (still NO clue why it was there or who they were)... and when they're gone, Elijah is still dead asleep! :D

So we can say now that he'll sleep through a brass band! (although other times putting a book back on a shelf wakes him).

caz what about trying a sippy cup like this. I started el on one really early and she can do it herself now.

Bruno it's funny how each sleep is different, one time the dog can bark and it doesn't so much as stir her then the next she'll wake with full blowin tears!!

Hi all.. Quick question if I may.. Does anyone have any recommendations for breast pumps?

I'm using a Medela Symphony double pump in the hospital but I want to get myself sorted with one of my own for when we're not staying at the hospital any more.

Don't know whether to rent one the same as the hospital ones, or whether to buy the Medela Swing (or is there a double one I can buy too?).. Any suggestions or recommendations?

Would be even better if one to buy was stocked in Boots stores as I have a £60 giftcard for there but I don't think it can be used online.

    Thanks all! :)

elle i was given the medela electric pump and i like it! do feel like a cow but i find it easier than the hand pumps! i have seen them in bos but unsure of the price!

PMSl Bruno can just imagine your faces waiting for the screams and silence!!! we have hoovered and made lots of noise when the babies have been born, but the older one wont sleep if its too quite so we have to leave a radio on!

never thought of that scruffy thanks!!!!!!!

I had a giggle at his so thought I'd post it on here. Hope someone else gets a giggle from it to.

Elle I had this one and really liked it. I got it alot cheaper than that tho, when boots had done there usual and made a pricing error. :T You only have to pump manually til you get a nice rythym going then press the button and the pump takes over, Q u to watch tele read a mag and hey presto a full feed. I always found if I distracted my self I would produce milk alot quicker, maybe it's just coz I got so engrossed in the tele and didn't realise how long i was expressing for :rotfl:

I'm using the tommee tippee closer to nature pump and bottles... Contemplating checking out eBay for a cheap electric one though, see if it can get more out, quicker... I did dig out my old avent disposable system yesterday though so I can freeze in milk bags... Will have to get new teats though I think, the ones I have here are 5 years old... Although they look fine...

Krystal, I do have the TT handpump too but am after an electric one for ease as I'm soley expressing :)

That said, there has been mention of trying breastfeeding directly sometime soon! They tried cup feeding in the night and he took 10ml like that which they said is good for his first time and first taste of breastmilk :D

Off to Mothercare too this afternoon to get more feeding tops so I'm not exposing my boobs to the whole room of four other babies and their families! ;)

    That's great news Elle!

Do the hospital not have a pump you could borrow for the time being? My hospital has 2 that can be leant out to people with specific need for one, and they supply the kits to go with them too...

Otherwise... I think feelie has been soley expressing with an avent isis and Tine uses a medela swing... I'm just watching a couple of different ones on eBay...

They had three Medela Symphony's in the expressing room and until last night I had one of those in our room as I'm not very comfortable with expressing in there. It didn't matter that I took one out as there were three machines but only two chairs in there so always one spare. Then I spent last night at home (to get a decent night's sleep - first one in four weeks) and put the pump back before I left and now someone else has taken it, and I don't want to pinch another leaving only one. I thought if I got my own sooner rather than later then I can carry on expressing in the room and not have the stress of not being able to.. :o I don't think they have ones at the hospital to loan out, they just point you in the direction of somewhere to loan them from. Online, I think..

i have to speak to my work this week about KIT days. The HR person (who is one of the partners of the firm) has no idea about them. She thinks they are for training only. I have to go into the office this week for an appraisal and do not want to waste a whole KIT day for a 10 minute meeting. Why are things never straight forward??
She's wrong. They can be used for anything which enables you to Keep In Touch. Try a google, can't find a link for you right now as DH is breathing down my neck for us to go out ...

BTW, we paid for some half days for someone, don't know if we were supposed to, but we did ...
