We'll be in Mill Valley, pretty much right beside Sausalito :) we've often gone down to the waterfront, my FIL used to be harbourmaster there! The Inn looks lovely :)

I've been thinking about Tummy Time (which is a bit of a new concept for me, given the age of my lot), but it doesn't really surprise me that a baby doesn't like it much.

Think about it, given the choice of lying on your back with your head resting on the floor and looking up at the sky

    or

lying on your tummy, when you've got to push up and hold your head up in order to SEE anything

    which would you prefer?

I can see it's important for them, but obviously they are going to get tired! And tired = grouchy.

Have you tried a rolled up towel under his/her armpits for tummy time? It helps give them the perspective and build up the strength. You can buy special cushions, but that wouldn't be very MSE now would it?!

Looking forward to opening my pile of cards and pressies in the morning. DH is taking me and Imogen out somewhere - something to do with my present - and then for lunch, but it's all a surprise. How exciting!! Maybe I am actually looking forward to my birthday after all.

Bruno - is there anything you can do to adjust Elijah's timezone the day before you go? I guess it's just a case of enforcing the new timezone asap - e.g. try to shift it a bit on the plane, a shorter long-sleep as it were to get the day going sooner (if you can do it that way around). We've only ever flown short-haul with LOs so don't have much else to add I'm afraid.

Right, off to watch the CSI repeat. I missed it last night

  • Wow just caught up on 10 pages!!

Caz - hope you are ok. (((((hugs)))))
Fritha what a great picture.. love the dimples:p

Tummy time - Ruby hated it, she would cry as soon as I tried it so just left her for a minute or 2.

Thanks for that link MFD.... I put some dates in ( in my dreams) and got a quote - oh will have a fit :)

Hi all.. Quick question if I may.. Does anyone have any recommendations for breast pumps?

I'm using a Medela Symphony double pump in the hospital but I want to get myself sorted with one of my own for when we're not staying at the hospital any more.

Don't know whether to rent one the same as the hospital ones, or whether to buy the Medela Swing (or is there a double one I can buy too?).. Any suggestions or recommendations?

Would be even better if one to buy was stocked in Boots stores as I have a £60 giftcard for there but I don't think it can be used online.

    Thanks all! :)

I used the high powered ones in hospital. I'd already bought a medela hand pump from TKMaxx for about £12 so used that when i got home. I found it to be good enough. x

Bruno - your story made me giggle :)

Caz - we tried a few different bottles, but no luck. She wouldn't drink out of a "first cup" either, but she will drink out of a little tomee tippee food pot thing (just like me drinking out of a glass iyswim). We've not tried it for milk though.

Tummy time - we had to just do a minute or two (if that) at a time and build up. As she gets stronger she is more and more happy to stay on her tummy, and now if she is in a good mood we can do 10-15 mins! It also helps to lie down next to/in front of baby and play with them down there, so they don't get bored so quick. On the bed is more comfy too. Oh and DH does lots of tummy time with him lying down and her lying on his chest, so that they were face to face. (Or just him slouched on the sofa - not quite lying down, but uses the same muscles) Far more interesting, and good bonding time for baby and daddy. And it gives Mummy a chance to get something else done ;)

We've had a busy day today - birthday party at my parents house for my Grandad - 22 people there, so rather manic. We took lots of food along, so had a mad cookathon before we went, and a mad washingupathon when we got back too, so I'm ready to collapse into bed any moment. Tomorrow is DH's birthday too, so it's all go! (June is expensive round here... 28th May is my brother, 4th June is my Dad, 5th is me, 14th Grandad, 15th DH, and he is a twin, so his brother too, then it's fathers day as well!!!) Never mind. It will calm down in 20 years or so ;)

Even freer than a rolled up towel is you. I used to lie with Celia on my chest (I read it as a tip on babycentre I think!) she'd hold her head up to look at me so she got used to being her her tummy better then. She also started rolling that way by flinging herself off to get away from me!

BrunoM; just to explain the brass band, for a lot of churches today was walking day;)
Elle: I got a 20% of medla voucher in my bounty bag did you? I can't remember if it was for use with them direct or could be used in boots et al. tho.
Also boots do stock a medla in store, think its the swing - it's about £80 if memory serves.
ETA: they do about 5 medla pumps 2 of which are double ones that cost over £200

Weezl: :shhh: I thought of Glo white too :o
Tummy time, if fergie doesn't like it does he like being held over your shoulder (a la burping time)? I prefer to hold my bubs like this and Edgar is already lifting his head to get a better view;)

Baby rice is usually just mix with warm milk to your preferred consistency, I think its something like 3pts milk to 1pt rice at first

Thanks Sami, that makes sense! They looked almost military and we failed to read their banner unfortunately.
