we will have less money when i go back to work :( once childcare is paid for i basically have to work full time to get the same money as what i'm getting now, and i'm only getting MA, and i dont want to leave seth full time :(
we might be able to get housing benefit, but where both OH and my jobs are commission based i'm scared to apply in case we go over slightly IYSWIM

i'm really really annoyed with the unfairness of the system at the moment. last year a friend of mine moved to spain with her OH and promptly fell PG, so waited out there until 20 weeks and then came back purely to use the NHS cos they wouldnt have got free healthcare over there, and had every intention of moving back out there once the baby was born. however she's now getting tax credits and decided to stay a year cos despite her OH being on twice the wage of my OH, they didnt earn much in the UK last year so they get FOUR TIMES the amount of tax credits we do and had a massive back payout this week, which she proudly told me has paid for a rent deposit on a 3 bedroom house and the rest shes going to spend on shoes. i nearly cried when she told me. we live in a tiny one bedroom flat in a retirement block and the only way we can afford to move is if we move in with my nan for a month while we wait for our deposit on this place to come back to us!

Em, I don't know much about the benefits system but just try and ignore your friend. I live by 'what goes around, comes around' so maybe it will all come back to bite her on the bum!!

i think she could tell i was not impressed with the way she was banging on about how in the money they are cos shes not mentioned it today, i was absolutely seething last night and just giving one word answers biting my tongue, i'd have flipped otherwise!

i got some cute little baby socks from peacocks today, there other baby stuff is complete tat but these socks are so cute, they're like little trainer socks and so look a bit better with shorts cos he still gets cold feet even when the rest of him is roasting! odd child!

  • Has anyone requested a copy of their Birth Notes? I have just contacted PALS to see how I go about it. I'm assuming you can get them for an appropriate fee? I've been thinking about it for months and not quite sure why but I really want to see them.

Em - if you'll have less money going back to work then aren't you better off not going back? (sorry if I've mis-understood)
We're better off with me not working because I'm 'just' an admin girl so having been out of the game for 3yrs (can't beleive how quick it's gone!!) I would be lucky to earn 12k pa for full time now and full time childcare x2 would come to about 10k pa then add on the petrol/parking etc there's just no point *sigh* This country is all topsy turvy!
I miss the adult part of working but my time with Chris has gone so fast that its nothing in the grand scheme of things :)

sorry rambled on a bit there :o

OK so here's a pic as promised yesterday

SB - its usually a £5 admin fee to get ur notes :) sometimes - esp if you are pregnant again you can have an app with your consultant who will explain them to you

  • Aw, how cute is that pic, Sami?! Edgar is gorg and Christopher looks every bit the proud Big Bro :D.

£5? Is that all? I was expecting it to be lots more for some reason.

SB, I was told I could request copies of my notes (to find out the reasons why I had to have an emergency c-section and the results of the investigations they did afterwards which is when they found out I had Vasa Previa) along with a copy of all of Rhys' treatment notes up to 25 years after the event. I think there was mention of a fee but not how much exactly it would be.

There is also a service at our hospital called Afterthoughts where you can book an appointment to come in and discuss your birth with a midwife or consultant, again years after the event.

I think it's that the discussion costs nothing but copies of the notes to take away do.

Rhys had two chemical burns on his arms from an accident in the hours after his birth (a medication to increase his blood pressure squirted back out of the injection point on his arm and burnt his skin) and I think that's why his treatment notes were mentioned - in case we wanted to sue (where there's blame, there's a claim, and all that!). There has been a full investigation into it because there has to be one, but we've just put it down to one of those things and we're glad he had the medication as it was probably partly responsible for saving his life! Also, the scabs have just fallen off in the last few days and it doesn't look like they'll be any lasting damage anyway :)

Thanks :D I think I've got 2 little heart breakers but then I am a teeny bit biased :p

I don't know how or why i know the £5 thing tho  I think I asked because I was going to keep a copy of mine last time and didn't realise the MW would just run off with them after 2 weeks! I think its cheap because they arn't allowed to charge anything more than what it actually costs them to make and send you a copy ;)

SB - i think within a certain time period, you can get them for free, or for the cost of them photocopying them. I got a copy of DS's a few years back - there was a question as to whether his birth caused his disabilities, so we had an independant doc. look through them (it didn't) - but I found them really interesting to read through, but i'm strange like that! :D

Sami - those pics are so cute. I love the 2nd one, it looks like a professional shot! Edgar looks like he has so much hair - i only produce bald babies! And you look far to good to have recently given birth.

Em- we really need to sit down and sort out what we're doing re work! I'm off until the end of November - the last three months being SMP, but it doesn't really matter as the difference between my normal part time wages and SMP is about £10 a week. OH is in the middle of the application/interviewing process for a much better job - but we may not hear if he's through til around September, then there'll be 3 months training at a lower pay rate before it goes up to real wages. Its a pain to try and work out what I need to do because we don't know what job he'll be in come November!

Thanks for all the replies re my hyper-hearing DS. I'm not sure he'd wear defenders - he doesn't like anything to touch his ears either. (Like the brother in Something about Mary who flips when someone touches his ear muffs :rotfl:). He will tolerate an MP3 player briefly, maybe we could get him to tolerate it for a bit longer.
