feelie - someone who knows better may come along and shoot me down, but I don't think you are doing anything wrong. If he wasn't hungry he wouldn't drink it surely? My LO refuses to drink when she doesn't want to so I can't see how you could make him drink more than he wanted to?

sounds like he's fine weights wise so I wouldn't worry too much.

BTW - I really admire you. I think you are an excellent mummy.

    I'm very confused about feeding.

Online, all the things I've read seem to suggest that a BF baby should have around 750-900ml a day. The amount shouldn't increase from 1 month to 6 months, just the composition of the milk.

HV says he should have 2.5 oz per lb of body weight, which at the moment works out at 29oz (about 825ml).

DS drinks 1200ml a day, little and often.

HV says I should try and get him to take 8oz at a time, internet tells me I'm overfeeding him.

He is sticking pretty close to 50th Centile on the Formula based growth chart in my red book.

Feely, I have no idea how much Caitlyn is getting because there are no little black lines on my boobs... If he's happy and content and gaining weight at a steady pace then carry on as you are hun... I'm sure the health visitor thinks he should take 8oz at a time to make it easier on you (bigger feeds = less frequent feeds = less hassle) if you are happy with the way things are going then carry on with it... Don't let anyone make you think you are doing a less than brilliant job!

feelie, if i were you i would take those figures with a pinch of salt.

you cant properly measure how much a BF baby eats and a baby will always take more from a bottle than a b00b whether the bottle is filled with formula or EBM!

as for 8oz  seth still only has 6 and he's 12 weeks old! just give him what he wants, when he wants.

remember that woman who fed her baby triplets mcdonalds and fish and chips? her babies werent overweight, it said in the article they cant store they will poop right out until they get a fair bit older. the 50th centile is the average one so he's fine. dont worry about it!

    wonderwoman much??
i didnt go straight home from the hospital, i went to my nans for a cuppa, does that count? after that it was when seth was 5 days old i think, i took him to work to show him off :D

:D:DWell if we're being competitive - I went to the corner shop on the way home from hospital, at 6.30am, when she was 2 1/2 hours old, for bread. I really needed some toast! :D:D

Feelie - i'd say balls to charts/experts! (can we say balls as well as boobs?)
If he's happy and gaining weight steadily, then you're doing it right! I've no idea how much she has when I breastfeed - sometimes she feeds for 5 minutes, sometimes 2 hours  - but when she has a bottle she only has 6oz at the most and she's almost 18 weeks!

Public feeding - i'll do it anywhere! Its all very discreet (until she starts to wriggle about). I've fed in the house with visitors and they've not even noticed til they've come close to see what she's doing. :o
OH is a big prude though - he thought I was nuts to answer the door to the postman with baby still attached. I don't even think the postie noticed.
Maybe its because i'm old and on my third. I was painfully shy about feeding my first in public. I even used to take him upstairs to feed if my mum/sister were visiting.

We're not rolling over yet - but she is trying very hard to sit up in her bouncer. The bumbo is going well, she likes to sit and be nosey in there.

Feely - please stop worrying about what literature says he should be eating :) If he's full he'll stop - if he's hungry: He'll let you know! :) Also the 50th percentile for bottle babies and BF babies shouldn'tt be compared if you ask me... OK I know it's expressed boob milk (just wanted to say boob ;) ) so it's probably actually inbetween the two :)
My favourite thing to remind people of has to be "the baby hasn't read all the books so is just doing what their little bodies are telling them" and I'd listen to them and not the books or websites ;)
Have you tried to try breastfeeding again now he's a little older? it might help increase your milk production as well as give you some skin on skin :)
