Afternoon ladies!
Nice to see you mel! Benjamin strains his head up when he is in his bouncy chair, I keep telling him to chill and lay back but he won't listen. He wants to be upright all the time. The bumbo helps
He would much rather be standing though, if you put your fingers in his hands he pulls himself onto his feet in a flash!!
emlou - when you say seth is rolling do you mean right over or onto his side?
Oh dear, there are 5 of us with babies within a few days of each other, don't want it to get competitive
The MSE-er in me won out today - boots breastpads were 99p for 80 so I bought 3 boxes...even though I think that they are carp :rolleyes:please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -
searching - I left the house with baby (and husband) about 10days after she was born, but I has an emergency c-section and was in hospital for 5 days. It probably would have been sooner otherwise. The first time I went out by myself was for dinner with a girlfriend when she was about 13weeks old. Our first night out w as last saturday
playgyms - we were given one from Mamas and papas and it's great - but very girly! http://www.mamasandpapas.co.uk/product-made-with-love-luxury-playmat-gym/759302000/type-i/
I love this one: http://www.johnlewis.com/230409372/Product.aspx
I think that while it's expensive they are something I wouldn't be without now - so safe to baby down on and keeps them amused for hours at various stages of development. Ours is permanently up in our living room.
Biting - LO is teething (sorry been going on about it a bit now!), but she's starting to bite me really hard when BF. I take her off say no in a low voice, but she just giggles and carries on feeding when she bites me again. I mostly nurse to sleep, but it was so relentless today that I put her in the pram and pushed her about the house until she fell asleep! Can I do anything else? shes getting teething gel and ashton powders and calpol as and when she needs it.
anway - it's lovely, she's asleep and i've 5 minutes peaceTescos are due to deliver - so hoping they don't wake her up!
r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
bfing in public, I'm really very proud of this, today was the first time I ever managed to actually successfully feed Celia in the sling (my lovely new mei tai)!
Clothes: Her Grand High Milkiness is still in 3-6 sleepsuit and she's 8.5 months! She's not tiny though, she just grows outwards instead of upwards!
baby groups: I get very jealous when other mums talk about going out without their sprogs. The furthest I've been without her is the shop at the end of the road! (Oh, the glamour.) And the people with children who sleep make me want to cry, mine doesn't sleep much! My point is everyone has always got something that they jealous of others for, so try not to feel bad when you do. (Does that make any sense?)Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0 -
fritha - you are totally right. All babies are different and no two issues are ever the same are they - the grass always looks greener doesn't it?!
well done on the BG in your slingr.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -

I sent off a request for information on local things for babies, and the Childrens Centre lady came out to see me yesterday to give me all the details. Got talking about how I'm feeling, so she is coming back next week to teach me baby massage! She'll come again for a couple of weeks, then she'll help me get ready to go out, and will take me to a Baby Group.
Milk supply is still increasing, I'm up to about 1000ml a day. Which would be great if my 8 week old baby didn't drink 1200ml! According to my calculations, that is enough breastmilk for a 17lb baby. Ooops.
That's ace - sounds like having someone to come help you get ready and out the door is just what you need, and once you've got out a few times it will be loads easier
Oh, and make sure you get HV to focus on you, not just the baby. You are just as important you know.
Still got to catch up on the rest of the thread but that will wait till this evening.Isabella Molly born 14th January 2009

I'm very confused about feeding.
Online, all the things I've read seem to suggest that a BF baby should have around 750-900ml a day. The amount shouldn't increase from 1 month to 6 months, just the composition of the milk.
HV says he should have 2.5 oz per lb of body weight, which at the moment works out at 29oz (about 825ml).
DS drinks 1200ml a day, little and often.
HV says I should try and get him to take 8oz at a time, internet tells me I'm overfeeding him.
He is sticking pretty close to 50th Centile on the Formula based growth chart in my red book.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
Oh - re rolling over - Izzy is nearly 5 months and not really rolling over. She has done it a few times on her own, but now she can't work out how to do it again - normally she gets part way and gives up... I keep helping her, so she can get over when she wants to. I'm sure she will get there eventually!
I'm not sure which baby gym we have, as it was a hand me down. I've attached various extra toys on, and I swap them round every so often too
BF in public - I do this without batting an eyelid now, but I have got a couple of pashmir scarf thingies which are useful for being more discreet (and a bit nicer than a musin!). She is getting a bit less subtle these days though - very nosey and easily distracted, turning round to see what is going on and exposing me to the worldLittle pickle.

Fritha, you have my sympathies... Aimee never really slept through until she was nearly 4... But you get through it without going too mad... And as they get bigger it somehow gets easier to deal with... Or more exactly, you roll over and let them just get in the bed as long as they don't disturb you too much
She's 5 now and very rarely wakes in the night unless she's ill... Although she does tend to get up ridiculously early... I'm really hoping number 2 daughter does not get her big sister's sleep habits! At the moment she feeds a lot during the evening and then sleeps for about 4/5 hours in the crib then feeds and sleeps (in the bed with me) in 2hr blocks until we get up... I'm mostly feeding her to sleep at bedtime, she needs an hour or 2 to unwind before she settles properly so I go and lie on the bed with a book and just let her feed as she wants until she drops off properly, then transfer her to the crib... But this is just how it's been for the last 3 nights and we all know how changeable these babies are!!!
First time I went out after Aimee was born she was a week old and I went to the corner shop with my sister... First time I took her on the bus to town alone she was about 3 weeks old... First time with Caitlyn was the next day, I really desperately wanted my Aunt to be one of the first people to see her but because she'd had chemo the Friday before she wasn't well enough to come to us so my Mum drove us over to her (40 miles) It was literally a flying visit though... She was still sick from the chemo and I needed to pee but couldn't do it without diluting it... Since then hubby's dragged me out and down the town a few times... I'm slowly noticing the difference now though, my back isn't quite so much agony after an hours walk round the town... Can't wait until it doesn't ache at all...A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Feelie imo the babies haven't read the books et al so they don't know what they're sposed to do, if the way and the amount you're feeding is working for both of you don't worry about it :-)Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0
