Weezl & Susan - I love your geekiness!!
    I'm a geek too :p
I didn't know you were doing EC Susan! SkintChick on the preg thread is considering it but I know I'm far too lazy for it :o

My biggest fear for my homebirth is that I get anyone expect for 'my' MW she has been fantasic and actually taken the time to listen to what I want but I've met 2 of the other MWs one I really didn't like (She took 2 parentcraft classes and spouted a lot of out of date info and completely 'forgot' to mention anything other than a hospital birth with plenty of drugs, following all of the recommendations ) The other is quite young (but still older than me) but I just don't feel as confident in her seeing as on tuesday she couldn't be sure if bump was breech or not! (he wasn't! other MW determind this in about 10 seconds flat)

Hurrah Nad :T Good for you. You are soooo in demand. Hope it works out for you.

Am now also giggling at the other birth stories with OH going, "Is this all I'm going to get tonight?" while I share the stories with him. Love, love, love the ginger one. I'm ginger and it's DH's biggest fear!

Sami - stop showing off about your efficient body and it's fab labour effort. Jealous!

Forgot to tell you about one of my (many) trips to the birth centre overnight. There's only one midwife as the community mw comes out overnight (there's 2 in the day). There was a big query over whether my waters had gone 2 days earlier (which we never got to the bottom of BTW but anyway...) and mw needed a good view to try to determine whether they had.

I'd made DH promise not to be down the 'business end' at any point, but he had to hold the torch so she could see better (you'd think in Yorkshire they could have recycled all those miners' head lamps but apparently not). Anyway, I'm starting at the ceiling distracting myself when MW says, "Erm, I can't see very well with the torch like that." "Sorry," says DH, "I was trying to get a better look!" :rotfl:

Oh yes, and then there's his declaration that, "It's a boy," as the surgeon lifted her out. Erm, nope. That'd be a back view of her bits and the umbilical cord, not a pair of crown jewels and a 'tail':rotfl: To be fair, he hadn't slept much for 5 days either...

    Thanks for the link weezl.

EC is all at sixes and sevens at the moment. In March we were down to one or two misses a day (excluding sleep) but then she had chicken pox and that messed everything up. Then she had to have antibiotics for an infected spot which messed with her insides resulting in her first ever nappy rash for a couple of days. At the moment I reckon we're probably about 50/50 nappy and toilet (not sure exactly as I haven't done my spreadsheet for a few weeks) but I figure that with all the chaos of moving house she's doing quite well really and I'm sure she'll progress again once things settle down. And based on the nightmare that nappy rash was it has been totally worth doing it.

Apparently it can be hard to tell even if you are experienced and the only way to know 100% is by a scan. One of my brothers was breech on the scan but the doctors and midwives all said he wasn't because they just felt and didn't look at the scans. (This was when scans were quite new.) They even had a scalp monitor on the bottom of his back but didn't realise he was breech till he was about to be born.

Whilst obviously it was wrong that she was told she couldn't breastfeed and sometimes these kinds of things do need to be publicised, I do think that some of these stories are published for sensation alone and only serve to make people think that breastfeeding is unusual and persecuted which isn't really the right sort of publicity needed. It sounds like this lady went straight to the press which I think is unfair as she should have approached the leisure centre management first and used the press as a last resort.
