The first thing I said when they handed DS to me was 'Oh God he's ginger...'...:o:rotfl:
The anaesthetist was very impressed with me - he normally hears 'isn't s/he the most beautiful thing you've ever seen' or variations thereof...:D
It was just a surprise, I think it's a fabulous shade, and if we had any more children I'd want them to have exactly the same hair colour.
Admitted, as he is ginger with glasses, I'm considering which martial arts class to send him to...;)The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -

I had a similar reaction with DS1. He has a lovely shade of dark red ginger hair, though admittedly it looks better on my niece. In the last year he has had a bit of a problem with spots (now cured by medication, thankfully) and the dentist says he needs a brace on his teeth (though as he's said DS can choose whether to have it or not I can't see it ever happeneing). Luckily he doesn't look geeky though, despite being a science whizz!
DD and Tom missed the ginger (which comes from my Mam) and are blonde like OH's nephews. None of them have my brown locks or look the slightest bit like me at all, which they're probably relieved about.
Nadnad, congrats on the job!
Interested in the talk about birth plans. I refused to even make one for Tom's birth as the first two times nothing had gone to plan anyway. The midwife was most put out that I wouldn't bother, telling me that I might not get the birth I wanted.
As it turned out Tom was breech until a few days before he was born, I had pre-eclampsia, Tom became distressed (though not to do with the pre-eclampsia apparently), I was rushed in for an emergency C-section and didn't even really know what was happening, he was delivered before anyone could contact OH or my Mam to get there in time so I ended up on my own (though a lovely midwife did hold my hand until I was asleep), it was all very dramatic and rushing down corridors with people doing things to me on the way-Casualty-style, Tom had to be resusitated at birth as the cord was wrapped round his neck four times, my placenta was infected and was breaking down and Tom wasn't breathing. I then developed HELLP syndrome and had to be monitored one-on-one in a private room for the next week, had to have two blood transfusions before being allowed home (and even then I had to beg as the hospital wasn't keen), had the midwife coming out to take blood samples for the next fortnight and needed a monthly liver function test for a year after Tom's birth. I'm guessing had I bothered with a birth plan, that wouldn't have been the birth I would have planned!!!0 -

If I hadn't had what was in my birth plan for that kind of reason I wouldn't have minded.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

I wasn't annoyed, I was just pleased I hadn't wasted the energy writing a birth plan. Actually, I was more surprised than anything - I'm not the sort of person who does drama; we're usually pretty mundane people. To be honest, everything happened so quickly that I wouldn't have had the plan with me anyway, especially as I didn't have any clothes for me or Tom or anything else for that matter. I had left my car at our local hospital (went there for an appointment and was transferred by ambulance with lights and sirens and everything) and OH spent goodness knows how long looking for my car at our local clinic - even though he knew I was at hospital that afternoon. I think his brain was a bit scrambled by then! I think it took a few days for things to sink in for both of us as it all felt a bit unreal. I've now had three children and have yet to hold any of them straight after birth, DS was asleep(!) when he was born and needed to be roused and given oxygen, DD was blue and freezing and needed to be put into an incubator to warm up and Tom needed resucitation and again needed to be warmed up, though he had a water mattress type thing that plugged in to keep him warm rather than an incubator. Oh, well, maybe next time...0 -
Sorry choc - I didn't mean to sound like I thought you were annoyed. I meant I was annoyed but if I'd had something like you I wouldn't have been as it wouldn't have been their fault.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

Oh, right. No, not their fault at all. In fact, I couldn't fault the hospital staff at all. They were all lovely and very empathetic. All apart from one of the nurses who gave me one of the blood transfusions who squeezed the bag of blood and got annoyed when I gasped as it sent a shooting pain up my arm. She said I wouldn't be able to feel anything, then turned away and must have squeezed a couple more times so I couldn't see as it hurt again and when I said "ah.." again she turned round and acted surprised and said "Oh, did that hurt?" Apart from that, the midwives were all fantastic and I had great one-to-one care. I was still glad to get home though!0 -

Awww - thanks for worrying. I mentioned it this morning but you must have missed it. We're going on holiday on Sunday and my parents are having Bob to stay, but they wanted to go to their caravan for the weekend, so they took him today.
Phoned Mam earlier and she said he'd settled in well, but was scared of the steps up to the door, so they are having to shove him up and down the steps!
He'll get spoiled rottern! The other day she was on about having to hoover the sofa more. I looked puzzled as he knows he's not allowed on the sofa and never attempts to get up. Then Mam coloured up and said my Dad invites him onto the sofa and feeds him biscuits! So it's not just the little ones we have to worry about being fed unhealthy food :rotfl:Here I go again on my own....0 -
Becles - I bet Bob comes back a stone heavier then when he left!
He'll be begging to go again
Choc - I'm amazed that you said next time! That's real proof that you once you have your baby the birth seams so much less painful, scary etc0
