Why would anyone send their phone off to these dodgy companies when its well known that they pay less than the phone's worth and they often pay less than what they say and then you get all that hassle. It's easier to sell it on eBay and you get more money for it.

Convenience. I don't mind getting less than it's "worth". Selling something to a business will never get you as much as selling privately but selling privately is more hassle. The thing I do mind is being promised one price and paid one lower because they don't provide a proper jiffy bag. Anyone using them would be advised to use a better (proper) jiffy bag and wrap the phone in bubble wrap. The one they provide isn't big enough to accept a phone properly packed and it's way too thin to protect the phone properly.

Because Ebay is a pain in the !!!! and we don't all have the time for it.
  • I have a Nokia 6210 Navigator. I looked on ebay and they were doing about £60 -£70. I checked envirophone and they were offering £72. I though I may as well send it to them instead of the ball ache with ebay. I sent it to them and they got back to me offering £50 saying the keypad was damaged. One of the keys had a small crack in it so I asked for it back. The new keypad only cost £4 from ebay. It took them nearly 3 week to send the phone back and when it got back to me, It was covered in deep scratches. I fitted the new keypad and sent it back. They have just got back to me offering £50 again saying the cover is damaged. Ive been in touch and they are going to see what they can do. A55holes!! I would NOT recommend using them at all. Twossers!!!

I have just sent a Noka N73 that did not work, when they recieved it they said it had passed the tests and paid me the initial valuation in full.
I am now going to send 2 further phones that also do not work and see what happens.

Hi - my wife sent her old LG phone to Envirofone and got a valuation of £20 and received a cheque straight away. No problems with their service.

I was going to send my old Nokia 6500 Slide to them in October last year for around £49, but I never got round to taking my photos off it. By the time I looked again about a month ago the price had dropped quite a lot so I decided I would sell it on ebay.

OH was taking some DVDs he no longer wanted to our local CEX shop, so we took the phone (complete with box, charger etc) and as it was fully working I got £48 trade in for it - would have been a bit less for cash. I know they are going to sell it for about £80, but as I doubt I could get that for it myself, and I didn't have the hassle of either seeling on ebay or sending it off and risking getting 50p for it from envirofone as they thought it was 'damaged' I'm happy :)

I'm absolutely disgusted with Envirofone! I sent them a pristine 16GB, 3G IPhone, packaged extremely well, and sent via Royal Mail's particularly expensive Insured method. The Post Office even crossed out the word "Freepost" on the envelope, to emphasise the fact that it wasn't sent free of charge, and while Envirofone admit to receiving my phone, they actually Emailed me regarding it twice!

Upon ringing them, they claim to have received both of my phones, but will only offer me 40% of the agreed price because the first one has a cracked back! They then went on to say that they couldn't accept the second phone, because it had been flagged as stolen. I questioned the staff in regard to this, and they say that the Stolen one, while immaculate, can't be accepted but the other one can, although it's damaged! The main problem with this entire situation, is that I'VE ONLY SENT THEM ONE PHONE!?

This is proof if ever I needed it, that Envirofone will cheat you. They are an absolute farce of a company, and quite clearly they're completely incompetent. How they can claim to have two phones from me, and say that they are in entirely different conditions, when in actual fact I've only sent in one phone to them, is beyond me. I'm hoping that these mistakes can be used against them, when I take matters further.

Guess what... my 16Gb iPhone 3G has also arrived with a "cracked back", which I know full well it did not, and was well packed (in addition to their flimsy jiffy bag). I've asked for the original packaging and photographic evidence, but suspect I'll get none.

Time to crank up a social media blackball... I shall be tweeting this out and spreading the word...

Right, please feel free to retweet me; I can't post the link here (as a new user), but my Twitter username is phildye, if you can work out how to find me and re-tweet my recent tweet.... It has a link back to this thread.
  • thanks for your tweet, Phil; I've registered just to let everyone else know that I too have been told a "cracked back" for my iPhone 3G means i wouldn't be receiving my full amount. Customer Services will be hearing from me tomorrow morning. Anyone have any suggestions on how to approach this? ask them to recheck?

if i ask for it back, will they conveniently 'add' some damage? I'm pretty sure you do not get 'cracked backs' on phones when you wrap something twice over in huge bubble wrap, and then parcel tape around that.
