Ryanair charge £10 per person per flight booked, so if there are 2 of you flying to Reus and back that is 4 charges of £10 - correct as far as Ryanair's T&Cs are concerned - even though it was all done in one transaction.

If your situation is any different, then you have a genuine query.

On the subject of charging vastly in excess of the 'true (or reasonable) cost, that is a subject that has been debated endlessly on here.
Just do a search.
It's not a case of whether Ryanair 'need' to charge it for each sector, they CAN charge it and you agreed to pay it by booking the flights.

The point dmg24 was making is that the above charges are levied by Ryanair on payment by all credit/debit cards EXCEPT VISA ELECTRON.

Pollycat explained it wonderfully, but I feel the need to add this.

The charge is optional. You do not have to incur the charge if you use Visa Electron. You paid for the convenience of using a different card.

As to why - why not?

I don't see many people going to the trouble of getting a Visa Electron card just to book Ryanair flights. Is it even possible to get one for any current account?

You'd be surprised at how many people DO get an Electron card just for that purpose, especially now that RyanAir have increased debit/credit charges (from, I think, £4 per person per flight).

The thing with Ryanair is that although the UK uses Visa Debit/Mastero quite a lot, Visa Electron is somewhat of the 'standard' in many other countries. Eastern Europe for certain has widely adopted Visa Electron, and I believe the Scandinavian countries also make extensive use of it.

I appreciate that in the UK, the lack of acceptance for Visa Electron due to the older network infrastructure is one barrier to its widespread acceptance.

Signg up to entropay - you load up your debit card onto their electron card and use this to pay for your flight, they charge you a %, think it cost me £1.30 or something - better than the ryanair charge, easy way to get round it

I don't know why I act so surprised each time Ryanair find something new to charge for. I thought they had scraped the bottom of the barrel clean with their disgusting credit card charge per person per leg of a journey, and then to check in at the airport but O'Leary has done himself proud this time. And to think I even got an electron card from Smile just to avoid their fees. I guess I'll have to cancel that now as there is no way on earth I am ever flying with Ryanscare again. I will happily pay more to competitors who understand that good customer service does not mean mugging them with a false smile and fraudulent prices where the hidden fees quadruple the advertised price.

just lifted this off the Ryanair T+C's

Visa Electron - As a special offer to Visa Electron card holders, Ryanair, for a limited period only, will not apply a Debit Card charge

so does this mean that they will eventually stop this?
