You'll now have to pay £5 per leg just to check-in online for all Ryanair bookings made after 20 May, other than sale flights. If you forget, the budget airline will charge £40 at the airport.

My opinion has always been that so long as there was a way to avoid Ryanair's charges that was fine.

For example, they charge to use all cards except Visa Electron. Sure, you have to jump through some hoops but at least there is some way to avoid the credit card charge.

This new lot of charges seem unfair as there is no way to avoid at least one check in charge.

When I printed my boarding pass there was no mention of the return pass, I just pressed the print button. So they charged me another 20 Euro at Friedrichtshafen for a return pass. Its all a con, why is not all up front?

Because if it was all up front, they would be out of business.
You wait till you buy a 1p fare and that flight fills up, you might find yourself being told that for "operational reasons" you have the option of another flight or you can have your 1p back so they can sell your seats for £300
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Hi, it's not a con, you didn't tick the little box to print out your return ticket too.
If i had only printed out the one way ticket i would have gone back checked it through and followed the instructions, tick the box and print.

You got any proof that has ever happened? I doubt very very much you have. By buying a 1p flight you still have entered into a contract with the airline. No matter what the cost.

I will keep on defending Ryanair because if you follow the instructions and stick to their rules which isn't too difficult, there is no other airline to touch them on price and punctuality.
  • The recent costs added to the price of a Ryanair Ticket are nowprohibiting the use of Ryan air. Recent check for a flight to Pisa left me £150 in pocket flying with BA over Ryan air. Plus the fact that I wanted to take 40 pupils, and a Ryanair £400 credit card hike seems excessive.

the frustrating point about this £40 check in fee for me is that my husband has an american passport, which automatically means he cant check in online, and we have to purchase our flights separately because all parties have to check in online or not.

Im not sure what makes a difference between EU passports and other countries, but maybe someone could advise this, to better understand their procedures.

Ryanair has changed its rules so foreign passport holders can check-in online. Like others they may have to pay for this whereas previously they had to check-in at the airport but could reclaim the fee. So the change saves hassle, but not money.

So the new £5 online check in fee is unavoidable. Does that mean that all there promotions for 1p flights will now say £5.01? As I thought that they can only advertise the lowest price that someone can physically get which on a single 1p flight would be £5.01.

my husband cannot check in online as he is a non-EU national. Ryan Air do not allow non-EU nationals to check in online and require them to check in at the desk....so because of his nationality, he is now required to pay £40? Is this not prejudice against someone because of their nationality? What steps can be taken to get this reimbursed as it isn't his fault. We normally avoid Ryan Air on most of our recent flights. They aren't as cheap as believed and the hassel/rudeness to fly with them isn't worth it.
