my husband cannot check in online as he is a non-EU national. Ryan Air do not allow non-EU nationals to check in online and require them to check in at the desk....so because of his nationality, he is now required to pay £40? Is this not prejudice against someone because of their nationality? What steps can be taken to get this reimbursed as it isn't his fault. We normally avoid Ryan Air on most of our recent flights. They aren't as cheap as believed and the hassel/rudeness to fly with them isn't worth it.

It says above that they have now changed the rules so your husband can now check in online.

    This article isn't correct.

Ryanair are *not* charging an online check-in fee for promotional fares.
    From Poland...with love.

    They are (they're)
    sitting on the floor.
    Their
books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.

    other than sale flights.

    No it is 'Promotional Fares'.

"introduce a £5/€5 online check-in fee per person, per flight, on new bookings, other than promotional fares (fares of “Free”, “€1” and “€5” will include web check-in on a free of charge basis)"

Today, Ryanair's website has the daft situation that when I click on a "£1" flight it costs me £28 more than if I click on a "£10" flight.

If the government forces Ryanair to do the decent thing & sell a flight for £10 if it advertises a £10 flight, couldn't the ruling simply be extend to Ryanair's website? If Ryanair offers me a £1 flight, I should be able to buy it for £1 not find that £5 'booking charge' + £32 other charges get added if I click my interest to buy. Can't that £1 offer on Ryanair's website be considered an advertisement to buy? Surely it's no good for Ryanair to tell me this offered price is a lie once I show my interest, just like it's currently illegal to say an advertised price is a lie once I go to buy it?

If it's a promotional fare, it will say 'No online check-in fee' next to the price.

I did it recently with a £1 flight and paid £1, used Visa Electron so no extras at all.

Might I suggest Martin's site considers a policy of always adding "are forced to" & "so called" to any of it's editorial comments on Ryanair

    - Ryanair "are forced" not to charge a booking fee on advertised prices. Instead of Ryanair do not charge.... (Why give them credit? They surely would charge if the law allowed them to extend their fiddle to an advertised price)

    - Ryanair adds £5 extra per flight, a "so called" online check-in fee

Automated computerised bookings probably costs a penny or two. This extra charge has no more to do with online costs than it has to do with providing stairs to get into the plane. It's simply a another way to camouflage another added charge until the second before a purchase is made.

another added charge until the second before a purchase is made.

BUT the online check in fee is on the flight selection page, so it is seen way before a purchase is made, not a second.

I love the way the Ryanair spokesman in the article explains how, by charging passengers more, it will keep the fares down in future!
