    I love these arguements - if you think it is unfair/cruel/sneaky/etc dont fly with them, fly with someone else,

    I will pay £80 return all in with RyanAir, rather than £120 for BA - to me money saving is getting it for cheapest - if I wasnt money saving I may think that the difference in BA is worth the £40. But, I am on a moneysaving board so will go with £80

    * fictious pricing

    I still don't see how they can charge for online checkin, they don't even have to pay any staff for it!

    I agree, except I'd rather pay the 40 quid more to fly with someone else, don't want Ryanair getting a penny of my cash :D

    Each to their own, for being on a plane for an hour or so, it makes no difference to me, I have had bad experiences of RyanAir, good experiences of RyanAir, bad experiences of KLM, good experiences of KLM.

    Different arguement if all operators were offering £1 flights and then Ryanair stuck a £5 checkin I would be more annoyed, but as it stands, the flight still is cheaper most of the time, and if I am going somewhere for a weekend etc, I would rather have more money to spend on teh weekend than to spend on the flight to the weekend

    how much does it cost for ryanair to keep their servers going, the hosting, the machines, the air conditioning, the 24 hour monitoring, the backups etc etc..

    these costs can be huge overall for a large company, and with charging for an online checkin fee, you're basically paying for the running of the website, the people who program it etc etc..

    so there is a cost attached, not as big as £5 per person per leg... but there is a cost..

    and if they are still cheaper, with all the extras attached than other carriers, then they are still a low cost airline.. it's just when their price is more, or the same as a full service carrier, then it's a bit !!!!..

    It seems safe to say that one either likes or dislikes Ryanair, I personally fall into the latter category. I dislike the owner and his attitude to customers so much that this is the one company I would pay extra to avoid.

    Same here, although I'd normally always go for the cheaper option (and I do fly Easyjet) I won't support Ryanair. If people like them and use them good on them - very money-saving, but it annoys me when people whine non-stop about Ryanair and them still fly with them, thus keeping the airline afloat.

    I reckon a good motivational tool for me would be to write a cheque to Michael O'Leary and have my mum post it if I don't stick to my goals e.g. going to the gym or whatever. I bet it would work! :rotfl:

    I don't agree with this. I neither like nor dislike RyanAir. So far, they've got me to and from places pretty much on time.

    If I want to book a flight (say to Barcelona), I check out the airlines that fly there (taking into account exactly which airport they fly into and how convenient that is to me), whether they fly from my local airport, which airline has the most convenient flight times and of course TOTAL cost of flights.
    THEN, I make my booking. It may be with Ryanair, it may be with another airline.

    As for paying EXTRA NOT to fly RyanAir - not a very money-saving attitude, IMHO. :confused:

    Can anyone tell me whether there is a way to avoid the £40 charge if you want to check a bag into the hold? Its only possible to do that via airport check-in right?

    I'm finding it quite difficult to price up a flight with ryanair now for the situation where I need to take a large (non carry on) bag.
