Hey, i have alot of Knowledge of how the student loans procedure works. If anyone needs any help, i can advise as much general info.
Obviously i cant divulge into specifics due to Data Protection and the fact that i'd get fired, but anything i can help with, just let me know.
Hi there,
Im new to this and not sure if i have come to the right place but here goes.
Student finance advised a couple of years ago that i was not entitled to a payment as i am only allowed 4yrs ( i think). However after many phone calls they finally apologised and stated they had it wrong and paid the loan.
However now i am in my final year and they sent a letter stating i was over paid £5812 which they are wanting me to pay in full or detuct the amount from any grant that i am entitled to during the remainder of my final year.
Iv called and questioned them and what they have stated is that the computer made the error and this is why i was paid!
They have given me a email address to appeal but just wanting to know if you have ever come across a situation like this.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance0 -

Hi there,
I will be a continuing mature student from Sept 2013 and will need to apply for loans grants etc. I would like to find out about student fee loans and grants and scholarships. When I recently visited the university I was told that my income assessment is only considered on the amount I earn when I am actually studying, I was asked if my employer pays me whilst I am at university and told that as they do not I can claim a full tuition fees loan as well as a maintenance grant and or loan. Does this mean that I could declare I earn nothing as I am not paid by my employer whilst I am at university? However, I do work and earn PAYE income as does my husband so do I just complete the application with his wage and not mine? We also have 2 dependents under 16 yrs living at hone with us.
The course is a full time progression route course after completion of a full time 2 year foundation degree. Although I only attend university 1 day per week for my current foundation degree course and the progression route course starting in 2013 is the same, I have to be working or volunteering in my study area to complete the course hence the employment.
Thanks in advance for any information.0 -

At the beginning of Oct I finally got my student finance notification and was awarded an adults dependent grant, SSG and PLA.
4 weeks later they have removed the adult dependent grant and adjusted my Jan and Apr payments as they said they had overpaid me at the beginning of the month. The basis of this is because my DH is doing a part-time OU course so apparently we are not eligible for it. Is this correct? I don't understand why they felt it appropriate to award it at one point and then take it away a month later0 -
Hi I was wondering if you could help me.
Last tax year I earned £19000 as a teacher and £8000 through my Ltd company in in dividends.
I have two student loans one taken out 1992 and one in 2006.
Anyway last year I didnt get any money deducted from my salary as a teacher for student loan repayments. To be honest I didnt even think about it at the time. When it came to do my self assesment my accountant thought I may be liable for £12000 at 9% for student loan repayments. I phoned student loans for advice and they said because my employer had missed it and my dividends were below £15000 I now had nothing to pay. After looking on line today I think this may be the wrong advice and Im trying to sort this out before Jan 31st. Also this year because I did a PGCE I have opted to put on hold the 2007 student loan repayment and pay the 1992 one first which I do by the direct debit. I would have done the same last year if I had realised as the monthly payments are alot lower £26. Now Im worried Im liable for over a £1000 on 31st Jan.

Hello, please may you give me some advice
I am currently being reassessed for SF due to my partner moving with me 2 weeks into starting my course. My Grant and loan entitled went from being: (I was still to be assessed for CCG)
Loan: £5998
Grant: 3250
PLA: 1508
to just a loan and NO grants
Loan: 3875
Which is a considerable drop.
I rang them up and they said that I didn't send in a Pff1. But whilst I was on the phone to them they saw that it was sent in months ago, along with a years worth of my partners bank statements, child maintenance payments, insurance policies, p60, pay slips.. THE LOT!
So they have sent it back the reassessment team again and keep telling me to ring back each time they give me a date to ring them. I am at my whits end. I am not too sure if I can afford to go to Uni amymore. I was wondering if you could give me a rough idea of entitlements please? I am being assessed for a loan, grant, adults dependents grant, childcare grant and PLA
We have one child. and my partner has a child that does not live with us. But he pays towards.
Yearly income before tax: 25,250
Tax credits: 0
Childbenefit: 1055.6
Out goings
Rent: 450pm
Car insurance: 114pm
Life insurance: 8pm
Council Tax: 85pm
Child maintenance: 150pm
Pension contribution: 175pm
Childcare: 608pm
Car finance: 181pm0 -

Correct. The regulations do not class someone as a dependent if they are in receipt of funding for a course of higher education theirselves.0
