How does Freesat work??

Scotsbob, you are very welcome to (and I would encourage) present a system that others may not be aware of, which in your opinion is the best solution, that's great, and that's not what the problem was. You called it Freesat. It's not. That's the confusing part, that's all.
And just for the record, Freesat receivers will require nowhere near as much setting up as your enthusiast boxes. I had to set a postcode and let it scan. Then by choice I set it up for my TV. I also then chose to go into the non-Freesat mode, to see the channels that you get (well, on 1 satellite) and set up some of those channels, though I very rarely use non Freesat mode.
The Freesat box can't record from a terrestrial aerial. I don't even think it has an RF input.
Icey77 needs a satellite solution, the Freesat box can record 2 channels at the same time, and even watch a third out of a very limited number of other channels, but Freeview channels, which your TV receives, will be view only.0 -

Agreed, I have both a Freesat ( Humax ) and Technomate Receiver, the Freesat is a doddle for a non - techie to set up and use, the Technomate needs much more expertise to sort.0 -
My mind is all of a blur now.
Am i right in saying the best option to buy is the Humax digi box??
Humax is a freesat digi box yes?? with the freesat logo shown rather than a digi box that can receive such channels but is not a 'freesat' box??All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0 -
I am not, your receiver will not set the local ITV HD channel by Post Code default, you have to go through the menu and move it to wherever you decide, a long winded process.
A Freesat Receiver is far more user friendly.
On that point you are correct.
It involves pressing 14 buttons, once, when setting the machine up from new.
"Long winded" is a very subjective term. If anyone feels that those few button presses is too long winded then they may very well struggle with any form of technology.0 -

I am not surprised...
Yes buy a Humax Freesat Receiver, forget anything else mentioned on here, you will not go wrong, easy to set up, a good simple user interface and a nice electronic programme guide..0 -
I was interested to read that answer. I don't have a Humax myself but wondered why it would not be possible to record Freeview. I understand that the tv set has Freeview built in but wondered if the aerial lead went through the Humax box would that not allow the recording of Freeview channels? Just asking out of curiosity.
AFAIK the Humax can't record from an external source and doesn't have an analogue input.
Maybe someone else can clarify?Dave. :wave:0 -

You need to buy a 'Freesat' branded box, such as those featured on www.freesat.co.uk, and which will have the Freesat logo on them.
The best of the lot are the Humax boxes. If you want to be able to record from the Freesat channels, then get the FOXSAT-HDR as this has 2 inputs and can record one channel while you watch another. If you only want to watch a single channel at a time, then get the FOXSAT-HD, which is significantly cheaper.
You can get info on the Humax boxes here: http://www.humaxdigital.com/global/products/product_stb_satellite_foxsat-hdr.asp and here: http://www.humaxdigital.com/global/products/product_stb_satellite_foxsathd.asp
The cheapest place to buy them is www.humaxdirect.co.uk
You can also buy 'Freesat' branded boxes made by other manufacturers such as Grundig, Bush etc from places such as Currys, Dixons, Comet and Argos ( search for 'freesat' ).

Which Humax to buy is the next question.
im not really bothered about recording so ill eliminate that option, here are 2 ive seen
Humax PVR9150T-G....... that costs £96
or
Humax FOXSATHD-G...... that costs £89
which is best or better than the other.

For satellite use, you need the FoxsatHD, the first one is a Freeview Receiver/Recorder, so no good for your requirements.
Hope that helps..0
