How does Freesat work??

It's a yes to both.
Scroll down to ITV HD and press the button to select it.
Enter either postcode, or to be even more accurate latitude and longitude and all regional variations are available.
So that is yes to both queries.
No it is not, as well you know, you cannot select ITV HD by just pressing the one single red button, nor will the default local ITV station be automatically selected by inputting a Post Code.
Neither of the receivers that you listed are Freesat Receivers and IMO they are not really suitable to be easily used as such.0 -

I am afraid you are incorrect.
I can order the channels so that ITV HD can be any button I choose. As there are so few programmes on ITV HD I have it at number 48 on my list but I could have it as number one or any coloured button or anything else on the remote.
I can order the channels so that my local ITV station can be any button I choose. When I set up my receiver I can do so either by setting post code or latitude and longitude. Having done that I can set my local tv station as any button I choose.
At this moment I am tuned to Sky News if I want to go to my local ITV station I press button 3 and that's it.
As with any receiver there is some initial setting up required, setting channel numbers, favourites list.
As I have said previously, I can access all the channels available on Freesat (and more)0 -

You'll be able to watch both, or at least the Freeview channels you can get.
I was interested to read that answer. I don't have a Humax myself but wondered why it would not be possible to record Freeview. I understand that the tv set has Freeview built in but wondered if the aerial lead went through the Humax box would that not allow the recording of Freeview channels? Just asking out of curiosity.0 -
Your best option would be to upgrade your TV Aerial, you could then hopefully buy a Humax Freeview recorder, much cheaper than a Freesat one.
Thanks for the replies so far, I need to get it clear in my head how it all works and what I can see/ record.
Unfortunately, upgrading the arieal is not really an option at the moment as it is a communal arieal, I live in a flat.Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0 -

I am not, your receiver will not set the local ITV HD channel by Post Code default, you have to go through the menu and move it to wherever you decide, a long winded process.
A Freesat Receiver is far more user friendly.0 -

So can you have a dish?...because if you cannot, then Freesat is not an option..0 -

The previous owners had a dish so I would be replacing what was there previously. I will have a scout about to see if there are any other flats/houses with dishes up.
Otherwise I will have to consider full Sky or just having crap a TV signal :mad:Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0 -
Fair enough, you either need a dish for Sky or Freesat, or a good external Aerial for Freeview.0

From what I understand the signal is so weak that having a good arieal makes little or no difference.
Thanks for yuor help so far!Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0
