How does Freesat work??

Scotsbot, this is confusing enough for people without making things worse.
With respect that is not very nice.
I am simply presenting another option for the original poster.
Feel free to disagree and offer other options but don't tell me I am making things worse just because you have a different opinion to me, because to follow your faulty logic I could also say you are confusing the issue by offering options different to mine.0 -

im glad you mentioned the 'EPG' and its a valid point. I was already to buy a Humax, but as you say there would be no programme guide to search thruogh for programs. and if there is no guide how do you know what on TV??
thanks for pointing that out.
also yes the Humax seems a good buy but im sure most people would want a tv guide these days.
The Humax does have an EPG, it is the Non Freesat Receivers that do not have an EPG.
To be honest and blunt, just ignore the receivers that have been posted by scotsbob, buy a proper Freesat Receiver and you will be fine.;)0 -
There seems a lot of confusion here.
I bought a TV with Freesat built in so I didn't need a digibox.
I connected it to my old Sky dish that hadn't been used for 8 years and it worked straight away.
Freesat does not need a card - it's Free to Air.
It has most of the Freeview channels plus a few others that show (mainly)grotty films. It doesn't have subscription channels nor does it carry Sky News, Television X or some of the teletext-only channels - although standard teletext carried on BBC1 and Channel 4 is available.
It also carries the BBC HD channel and the ITV HD broadcasts come in on the Red Button system. BBC HD and ITV HD are free to air - no subscription.
BBC HD has a lot of repeats on it but gradually, as more programmes are made, they are showing an increasing range with less repeats. I haven't seen programmes on the HD Channel that are not carried on one of the other standard BBC channels either before or as a simulcast.
The quality is excellent - especially sport and some of the Wild Life documentaries.
ITV show some of their programmes as HD but these tend to be the more recent drama productions or sport. Again, more programmes becoming available as time goes on. They are all simulcasts with the ITV standard broadcasts.
I read that Channel 4 will be on Freesat later this year, but have not seen it referred to recently - also believe that a free National Geographic-type HD Channel will be launched later this year, too.
I can't help with digiboxes, but hope I have cleared up some of the confusion over will a Sky dish work and the programme content.0 -
Hi,
I am looking at Freesat (not the sky one) for where I am about to live has appalling digital reception - you can't get anyof the ITV or channel 4 or Five channels at all for most of the year.
I am thinking about buying the Humax Freesat Recorder whatsit and what I would like to know is if I had a TV with freeview buit in could I watch/record the channels that you can get on freeview but not freesat?
Really confused by all this as you can tell!
ThanksWhether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0 -

Your best option would be to upgrade your TV Aerial, you could then hopefully buy a Humax Freeview recorder, much cheaper than a Freesat one.0 -

No, it'll be the other way around. You'll be able to record the Freesat channels, but not any of the Freeview channels.
You'll be able to watch both, or at least the Freeview channels you can get.Dave. :wave:0 -
