As had been said many times before, with Ryanair it's all about the promotional rates. I'm flying to Dublin and back for £2 return (all inclusive) in a couple of weeks. Ryanair are bad value for standard rates with luggage etc but can be amazingly cheap if you're flexible and don't choose the extras that they rip you off for.

for those of you that use an Electron card do you have it from the Post Office is this the most hassle free place? have a feeling maybe you can get from Halifax too? I bank with them. Is an electron card free? Do you just top it up when you think you are about to book a flight with Ryannair and is this easy to do? Can you just use it in a shop if you wanted to as well so money didnt necessarily get stuck on it?
There has been discussion on this I know but I havent quite got to grips need a point by point explanation!

I got a Halifax easycash card for Ryanair flights. I also have my quidco funds paid into it. yes you can use it in shops. It is a debit card, you can only spend what is in the account.
I can transfer money online straight from my HSBC account to book a flight.
Ryanair is good for me as the airport they fly to where I go is where I want to be. And BA don't fly from Bham to Billund.
Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

Why oh why is there so much slagging off of Ryanair on this site? I for one am getting sick of reading them.

I will say it again, you do KNOW the full price of your ticket before you decide to buy but some still decide to buy then SCREAM RIP OFF to all and sundry. The answer is simple, do not buy do not fly is it that difficult?
I booked a flight for the 1st of June to Krakow for the modest sum of £6 return but also paid £30 afterwards to take a big case with me as well, have you heard me complain about the £30 charge? Nope not at all. i knew the price and readily paid it. Now you try getting a taxi which will take you, say for instance , 50 mile and i can guarantee you it will cost you more than £36.
I am beginning to think there is nothing but whingers on here who can do nothing but slag off a company which has revolutionised European air travel for the masses and for some it appears it is still not good enough. Not to mention the hundreds possibly thousands of jobs which have been created purely to Michael O'Leary and Ryanair.
Some complain about the cost of the food and drink on the plane, simple do not buy any, again, is it that difficult that you cannot go, on average, a two hour flight without food or liquids, poor little mites. Get a grip grow up.
I booked a flight to Wroclaw this morning a place i have not been to for £16 return YES £16 RETURN no taxes nothing. Now you tell me which other airline is going to do that?
Some complain they had to pay extra for their bags to be checked in the hold when they got to the airport, that is entirely their fault. I was in Manchester Airport last Monday boarding a flight to Girona and i saw 4 people have to check their bags in but when you saw the size of the bags i am not surprised. Now who do they blame? Ryanair and everyone else except themselves when they refuse or are too thick to follow the guidelines.
Ryanair has given me the opportunity like millions of others to go and visit places i would not have even thought of going to but damn glad i have.
Ease up on Ryanair if some are not able to do that.....BOOK WITH ANOTHER AIRLINE IS IT THAT DIFFICULT?

I understand that the Post Office pre-paid card will work as Visa Electron but I've never used it.

I have a Halifax Easycash account which comes with an Electron card. Unfortunateyly I cannot do an instant online transfer from my main account (Nationwide) so I just keep enough money in the Halifax account to cover a typical Ryanair purchase. If your main account is with Halifax then they MAY support instant transfers between Halifax accounts if you open a separate Easycash account.

I can do instant tranfersd between my main accout Barclay & my halifax easycash account perhaps its a nationwide thing. if you are a halifax customer you will still need to apply for a easycash accounr as one of the other accounts do electron cards.

Also they make a profit and I don't have to toss and turn at night wondering if they will still be in business by the date I fly.
They may still be in business but your flight may get canceled at any given moment, just look at the flights they moth balled over the winter. Time and time again people come on here complaining that they have had flights canceled. You would be a fool to book with them if you needed to catch a connection,(as they say, they are point to point) but I guess where they tend to fly to most people wouldn't be using as connection points anyway.
Just my 2 pence worth, but then I won't fly with them.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Do you mean that the money moves from your Barclay's a/c to your Halifax a/c straight away?

If so the difference with Nationwide, is that they are not a clearing bank, so payments have to be sent to a clearing bank first.

I thought the term "clearing bank" only applied to cheques...

I think it's because Nationwide haven't implemented Faster Payments for all accounts yet (FlexAccounts opened in the last 6 months or so do have it, but older accounts don't) so are sending payments via BACS which takes 3 working days.

Flights Booked in last few days (prices shown ALL inclusive)

South of France to Cork 3.40 euro
Bristol to South of France £3.00
    Cork to Dublin 5 euro
    Dublin to Leeds 20 euro
    Stanstead to Cork £5

What's the problem, I can't have ALL the cheap flights.

    POINT 1
    So that's one airport then!
They are renowned for landing in the !!!!! end of nowhere. You can't possibly argue against that.
I recently booked tickets on a holiday I had flying round Europe. I flew the major airlines after realising the inconvenience that the cheap airlines would have caused me with destination airports and very little cost saving.
    POINT 2
Another journey, due to the snow in January I was stranded and missed the flight I was booked on with BA. They just put me on the next available flight, no charge.
Compare this to my folks who had to fly back from a holiday in Portugal early due to an unexpected death in the family.
2 Ryanair flights, the first one to London was delayed and as such my folks missed the 2nd Ryanair flight. All Ryanair's fault. They had to book and pay again for the next flight. No apology, no explanation but they were too upset to complain and just paid Ryanair for the next flight.
So I guess if you are willing to pay companies money for attitude and customer service like this, you deserve everything you get.

    POINT 1

If you look down the list of over 250 destinations, you will find that less than 10% arent the main airports. So that leaves at least 225 destinations that are EXACTLY where you expect to go.There really is no excuse for anyone to land "unexpected at Girona instead of Barcelona (BCN El Pratt)"
Ryanair clearly state the "alternative airport being used)

Ill help you with some of the obvious ones I can find 15, but I bet you cant get more than 25!

    Glasgow (Preswick)
    Barcelona (Girona)
    Barcelona (Reus)
    Venice (Treviso)
    Oslo (Torp)
    Stockholm (Skavsta)
    Stockholm (vasteras)
    Verona (Brescia)
    Milan (Bergamo)
    Paris (Beauvais)
    Brussels (Charleroi)
    Dusseldorf (Weeze)
    Hamburg (Lubeck)
    Frankfurt (Hahn)

    POINT 2

Their business model is LOW BASIC COST, NO FRILLS , SINGLE TRIP POINT TO POINT.
Thats the type of passengers they cater for on their 79% load factor 95% on time flights.
They really dont want the hassle of sorting out connecting flights, for rare late arrivals. They even advise you not to book connections.
They also DONT OVERBOOK so you are not likely to be "bumped" for a premium fare paying passenger either.

BA on the other hand cater very well for both these situations. They are regularly late so often have to sort out different flights accom etc for missed connections on THE SAME TICKET

They also regularly overbook and bump passengers - not always volunteers either. They compensate well but thats no good if you miss an important appointment.

    Conclusion

Full service and budget airlines are completely different products, designed for completely different markets, so how can you compare them?-You cant!
