Village children set to get playground
Mar 28 2005
By The Huddersfield Daily Examiner
Outlane children will soon have a new playground to enjoy.
Work is almost complete on the site, which features climbing equipment, slides and soft, safety surfacing.
Mrs Wilson said: "It is just a case of putting the finishing touches to it. This will give local children somewhere nearby to play and encourage them to enjoy physical exercise.
"It was former councillor David Ridgway and his Liberal Democrat colleagues who pushed for this facility," she added.0 -
Good to see that Mr Ridgway is concerned about factors that adversely affect his business.
'Restaurant trade hit by roadworks barriers'
Oct 7 2004
By The Huddersfield Daily Examiner
FENCING put up during roadworks is damaging trade for a Huddersfield town centre restaurant, it has been claimed.
David Ridgway, owner of The Keys in the crypt at Huddersfield Parish Church, said customers had been put off going there because of the fencing in Byram Street and Kirkgate.
He said access was impossible for disabled people, adding: "It is cutting off parts of the town to the public."
The fencing has been put up during work to pedestrianise Byram Street.
Mr Ridgway, who took over The Keys in August, said: "I have no gripe about the scheme - the workmanship is absolutely sound. It is the way it has been organised that is the problem.
"I could just about write-off business one day this week because people couldn't get from one side of Byram Street to the other."
Kirklees highways spokesman Terry Brown insisted there was pedestrian access to the church and The Keys.
But he added: "The church has some scaffolding up at the moment.
"I can understand how people seeing the scaffolding and the fencing might assume they cannot get to the restaurant.
"But the paving work will be completed by the end of this week and the fencing will be coming down."0 -

Crime toll 'not full picture'
Dec 7 2002
By Neiul Atkinson, The Huddersfield Daily Examiner
RURAL crime in the Colne Valley may be much higher than statistics show, says a councillor.
Colne Valley West's David Ridgway blamed a slow response from police and low crime detection rates for people's reluctance to report crime.
He said: "Many petty crimes in the rural areas of Kirklees are going unreported because local people believe there is no point in telephoning the police because of the slow response time.
"Vandalism, drug dealing and stone theft are widespread, but the low detection rate and delay in response makes people think there is no point in reporting crime."
The group Marsden Working in Communities is now looking into the issue of rural crime and how to encourage the public to report all crimes.
The group has representatives from various council services, West Yorkshire Police and the voluntary sector.
Working together at a local level, the various agencies can take an effective and united approach to tackling issues of concern to local people.
Clr Ridgway said: "We want people to report all crimes. It is only when a true picture emerges that the resources will be allocated to deal with what is a real problem."0 -
I haven't had a reply to mine:huh: I think he's got the message though that he was OTT charging. That's the trouble with the internet.

Thank you all so much for your support, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the keys inbox has crashed.
Still considering wether or not to contact local rag, last time I appeard in there, (local residents trying to stop building development, ) I kept getting stopped in the village by people saying 'I saw you in the paper' It was a blooming awful photo and I was mortifyied that I actually looked like that.
I have passed the word on to the local mums grapevine so there's more people vowing not to darken their doorstep.
Thanks again will keep you all posted.

Well, a quick search of the local rag online http://ichuddersfield.icnetwork.co.uk/ shows that the restaurant is great at courting free publicity for its events...........0 -
Dear Mr Ridgeway,
It has come to our attention that you may be in need of bulk supplies of place mats, as we understand you have an active trade in them.
May I encourage you to visit our website, where you will find our prices to be exceptionally competitive. All our placemats are laminated, and therefore [STRIKE]sticker [/STRIKE] heat resistant.
We are also able to supply against a personal cheque, as we understand you would probably not wish to claim against business expenses if you have already charged customers for the placemats, and we feel sure you would not wish to defraud the Inland Revenue.Bad Spellers of the world untie0 -
