HM room / air freshener / deodoriser

Hi
How about the dehumidifiers that you fill with water and place over the radiators
you can add a few drops of your favourite essential oil and when the rads heat up the aroma is released. Ok you have to pay out for the dehumidifiers (or you can put them on your xmas list) but then they will last forever and it will only be the cost of the oil and as you will only use a few drops this will last for ages.
You can also get the rings that you place over a lightbulb and fill with essential oil. I was given one of these as a present but prior to having one I just used to wipe a little essential oil directly onto the bulb of a table lamp whilst switched off. When it is swtiched on the warmth sets off the aroma.
Cheers

Sorry if this has been said before but I just found out instead of using room freshners or those (expensive) plug ins if you dab a little fragrance (of your choice) on your lightbulb, whenever you turn your light on it freshens the room.
feel free to put any other quick tips on here.and sorry again if this has been said before.official dfw nerd club member no 214

Yes, that tip works well cattie, have you also tried baking some orange/lemon skins and bunging a cinnamon stick in the vac bag?A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0

Great ideas. I buy a huge bag of cinnamon sticks(more like pieces really) from our local asian shop and put enough to cover a small baking tray shove it in hte oven at the lowest setting(so its just on) after about 15 mins the smell of cinnamon is wafting throughout the house! Have been doing this for a few years and am still on my first bag!(you can use each batch for a good few weeks)The bag cost me something like 97p but I got a bag for one of DH's workmates and it had gone up to £1.25!!! It smells FANTASTIC.Blind as you run...aware you were staring at the sun.

Despite cleaning loo, floor etc, there's still just an unpleasant 'odour' hanging round our downstairs loo.
As lots of allergies in the family (and it's environmentally unfriendly/not money saving) I'd rather not use air freshener. Does anyone have any 'natural' suggestions, preferably using normal ingredients? I do have some essential oils I could use but haven't a clue how to use them to make a room smell nice.
Any ideas?0 -
I'm another one that's tried all the suggestion on how to make your home smell nice.
I've tried the essential oils on the radiators.
I've tried the essential oils in a bowl of wood shavings.
I've tried everything suggested on here basically.
But,,,,, I have two pedigree cats and they're always sticking their noses in where they shouldn't be - nosey things they are! lol
What could I use to keep the smell lasting for a long time and not just for a couple of days etc and that would be safe to use around the kitties?
It's always lovely when you walk into someone else's house and the smell is always there.

Have you tried those ceramic rings that you put essential oils in then put on top of your lightbulbs? When the light is switched on it heats the oil and the smell is automatically dispensed! I'm sure the cats wouldnt be able to get to that, and much nicer than sprays etc...0 -
Could it also be that you don't actually notice the smell in your own house, in that you get used to it?0
