SEROUSLY Overcharged on Postage by Seller....

I bid for, and won, 2 x concert tickets.

The seller's blurb impresses very strongly that she will ALWAYS send tickets via Next day Special delivery, which is sensible given the value etc of the tickets. Okay, it's a premium price at £5.50 postage, but I understood why she'd need to charge that much that given the value involved and to cover her for insurance over £32, which is all that Recorded Delivery covers her for.

They arrived yesterday....and were actually sent Second Class Recorded delivery...!!

I'm annoyed since:

1 - They wouldn't have been insured if they'd gone astray ( value is well over £32 )

2 - I paid £5.50 for a Special Delivery service charge which she didn't use ( despite her ad saying she always did ! ) and I've paid her a premium of £4.50 over and above her costs, for a Second Class Recorded Delivery.

I'm peed off....do I have any recourse for a partial refund. If I ask and she tells me to whistle for it...what can I do?

I don't mind anyone charging an extra 50p-£1 on top of postage to cover costs...but to blatatly lie about the service and charge me 5 times what she paid to post them is a bit off....

Maybe it was a genuine mistake, If she was sending out alot of parcels at one time, it is easy to do. You can politely ask her if she can give you a bit back for postage if you want to. If she doesn't cooperate, you can post back here for further advice.

B.T.W, you do know 2nd class recorded is more like £2.20 now, so is a bit more than a 5th of £5.50 ...

Nope...the only things she ever sells are concert tickets, ...nothing else whatsoever, so I can't imagine it was an oversight. According to the Royal Mail site...2nd Class Recorded is £1.05 i.e. stamp cost + 75pence.... Still a hefty £4 plus on top of actual costs.

You paid for a service that was clearly offered on the listing

    You didn't receive that service

You should email stating that you didn't get what you paid for and asking for a partial refund.

Definitely ask for the difference to be refunded. You paid for an explicitly-stated service, and did not receive the service.

If she says "whistle for it", leave detailed negative feedback. Other buyers need to know that they're not getting the insurance that they think they are paying for.
  • I would demand the difference as it's not so much overcharging, which I usually mock posters about when the mither, but blatant mis-selling.

Oh yer I was thinking of parcel price. Still, you could politely email her and ask for a partial refund on postage... see how far that gets you. If it doesn't, file a claim with PayPal and see if that gets her talking or just leave her negative feedback.

1 - they would've had to give you your money back if they'd have gone lost (if you payed by paypal anyway), but...
    2. you did pay for next day and didn't get it, so I'd be a bit peeved. Politely ask them for a bit of money back and if they don't give you it then I'd probably leave neutral feedback and/or mark their stars down (best not mention that in messages though- feedback extortion etc...)
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

Here's the relevant bit from her auction............
"" Tickets will be sent via Royal Mail SPECIAL Delivery, fully trackable online.
I accept the following payment methods:
    • PAYPAL. Items will be despatched as soon as funds are received.
Postage and Packaging £5.50 in the UK,
All items sent by 1st Class SPECIAL Delivery in the UK. ""

I did e-mail her just before posting this thread....she's already answered saying she meant to put " 2nd Class Recorded Delivery " NOT SPECIAL Delivery..... and since it's a genuine error she has no intention of refunding me anything at all. ( I'd guessed this might be the case ).

I've pointed out her other auctions all say the same...so it looks like it's a stunt she pulls every time.

Now what can I do??????? It's not so much the money...but from her response she's obviously aware what she's done and must be blagging everyone the same way! Not a bad way to make £4 extra mark up on each sale with no fees!!

Depends how cross you are , you have a few options, you can report her for fee avoidance and neg her.

I think anyone who made a mistake and didn't immediately become contrite and apologise and pay the difference back meant to do this, and that would make me mad. I would therefore sleep on this for at least a day but then seriously consider another emai asking again for a refund of the difference (under no circumstances mention or threaten feedback, just ask outright for a refund), and if that doesn't materialise I would neg her and mention charging for a service that is not provided.

Incidentally, a thin pack of tickets can get away as a standard letter at 30p second class, even if they were well padded they could go as a large letter which is 47p 2nd class. The postage you see on th elabel is actually inclusive of the 75p recorded charge, which makes it even worse.

    30p 2nd class stamp + 75p recorded gives a stamp cost of £1.05.

  • When was 2nd class recorded fully trackable online
You can't 'accidently' put that in

    £5.50 Special Delivery Charged
    £1.05 Actual Cost

So about £4 postage profit every time she sells ticket...

Neg to make sure everyone else knows what she is up to...
