SEROUSLY Overcharged on Postage by Seller....

  • My claim isn't tickets it was for a bit of clothing (if you see the last page I tell my story there).
Because I paid with paypal it doesn't seem to want to let me claim through ebay annoyingly!

Sorry - in amongst the bickering I didn't notice that you had posted about another case!!!!!

If you aren't worried about keeping the item of clothing I would open a dispute and say item was not what you expected and ask for a full refund through paypal. They should count themselves lucky, some people would just do a chargeback or claim they hadn't received it if the seller was getting rude. You will be responsible for any costs returning the item though and they could claim that you hadn't sent it back!

The only problem is sometimes the postie does not bother to get a signature for recorded delivery - naughty but a fact I'm afraid!

I've just put another claim in under 'item substituted for cheaper item' so lets see how they deal with this. I know it's not technically right but they did sustitute more expensive postage for a cheaper option so I'm just stretching the discription a little.

Strangly enough it will let me escilate it to a claim though which I'm ok about as the seller made it very clear they weren't going to be refunding me the excessive postage charges of their own free will.

Edit: It seems to have closed the case down straight away stating:
We're unable to decide this claim in your favour at this time. PayPal's Buyer Complaint Policy applies to the delivery of goods but not to disputes about merchandise quality.

That has always been my understanding of the system.... sort of. Although they do offer a dispute process for item significantly not as described, but I had always taken that to mean the item itself, not the postage method. That's why I was surprised when someone mentioned there was a formal dispute process for overcharged postage.

It looks like the one custardy got was a trial, and it will be useful to see if that is going to be more common now, or whether it will be on ebay.com only where the dispute system is already slightly different.

I realised this works in the US, I wondered though if it has been rolled out in the UK or whether it is just being tested here randomly? Has anyone registered on ebay uk and buying in ebay UK successfully managed to reclaim funds on this system yet, that would be the interesting point.

As someone says on that article this looks like another attempt to follow the Amazon lead where this kind of thing happens already.

I even wondered if it depended on the original ebay registration. My main selling accountt was registered on ebay.com, so I wonder if that would trigger the pop up screen (assuming i ever used it to buy and had a problem of course), whereas my newer accounts have all been registered on ebay.uk.

I must say as a seller I did once send something 1st class when it should have been 1st class recorded.

The item made it and the buyer contacted me telling me this, I just apolgised and refunded the postage in full as a good will gesture.

It could be a geniune mistake, so just send a polite message pointing this out and see what happens.

OP has and seller is refusning to refund the difference and has not amended their other auctions to correct this mistake.

Like you though I have used the wrong postal method on a couple of occasions, I was mortified and as soon as I relaised I had a repayment and a grovelling apology to the buyer out within hours.
