Well guys, it is good-bye to Fast 4 I'm sorry to say. I thought their deal was good until they pulled a fast one with the payment of £1.98 per month for the free talk, effectively putting up the cost of BB to £11.95 per month.
I have signed up for the Primus deal. See this post for details

Thought I would let you know about my experience with cancelling my Fast 4 account. I used the member's service area and clicked on "Cancel my Account". This take you through the procedure, and you can either go through their trying to get you to stay bit, or go on to cancelling. I then sent a message to Customer Services asking if there was any requirement to confirm in writing and the answer was NO. Unfortunately what I did not realise was that if you have been with them for some time, you don't even have to give any notice period, and the result was that my service was due to be terminated that same night! When I realised this I sent them a message and was re-connected the next day. So if you do cancel in the future, make sure you cancel the day before your account is due to finish and cancel your DD anytime before that.
Fast 4 have been really good in this cancellation period and in many ways I am sorry to leave.

    Hi peeps,
hope you don't mind me dropping in here.
I have cps with Onetel and use Fireflyuk.net as I don't go on line that much. Can I sign up for Fast 4 and still retain my present setup or will I have to dump Onetel, which I only use for a permanent email address.
    Thanks in advance. tweeter.

No you won't have to dump OneTel, if your still using a BT number even if you are paying line rental to OneTel. If you want a real permanent email address you should get a gmail one (google). If you want one send me a pm with your current email address and I will send you an invite. Then you won't have to worry about dumping OneTel. You can take you gmail address with you to any ISP and download & send via Outlook just the same.
Fast 4 is super value at £6.99 per month all in.

    theloft,
Thanks for your quick response.I still pay Bt for the line.

Is it just a matter of getting a Gmail address or do you have to sign up and accept a permanent toolbar or something on your browser or desktop? Thanks again.tweeter.
    will pm you any way.

Hi, I'm currently between broadband connections and am looking for something to tide me over for 2-3 weeks. I'll want to spend at least 10 hours online per week, so I think a months contract with F4 @ £6.99 will beat the costs of a standard PayG or prepaid dialup service.

From reading the thread, I can see F4 take issue with automatic redials, but do they complain if you just clock up a lot of hours (I'll want to get my money's worth)? I see you can cancel through their website, so I'm presuming there shouldn't be any issues there?

masonic, I think you will find that the minimum contract for dial-up with Fast4 is for 3 months

Hi tweeter, you should have your Google invite by now and no you don't have to have anything permanent from Google on your PC. BUT just for the record, I do use Google as my home page as it is so convenient for looking up websites and I also have their very useful toolbar, which stops pop-ups as one feature and has a quick search facility. As you can see I am a Google fan !!

Oh, I was going on what Martin said in his cheapest dialup article, here.
If not, the cheapest unmetered ‘at-all times’ unmetered ISP is Fast4.net at £6.99 a month. Feedback on its service is moderate, with +some reported problems at peak times.

Yet it can be immediately cancelled, so the worst scenario if it doesn’t meet your requirements is the loss of a one month £6.99 subscription.

    Is this information incorrect, then?

Edit: Also from F4's FAQ section "Am I tied into a specfic length of contract? Our dial-up service is provided with a no contract term. ADSL contracts are standard with one year. Cancellation for dial-up and ADSL accounts must allow 28 days notice and can only be done from within your customer members area."

So it seems I would have to give notice straight away, but should still get connectivity for the whole month, no? Any comments on usage restrictions?
