Well said Tinkletoes, there is no obligation to spend anything else, and the money they raise is going to charities, i think it was a great idea! Staff were well organised and it was a friendly atmosphere in our store with only the odd idiot trying to ruin things who was promptly removed!!! :)

I got to my local M&S 10 mins before opening and there was already a long (but very orderly) queue. They were only letting in a few people at a time and by the time I got to the front all the good stuff was gone. I got a drink, a mug and a bag of sweets. I had been hoping for the necklace & earring set but I guess everyone else had their eye on that. Wouldn't have minded the beachball or frisbee either as I'm going on holiday tomorrow :)

They didn't even let people in the queue know that most of the stuff was finished. It was a bit of a waste of time really but I needed to go to M&S anyway so I didn't mind.

I went to the Perth store, not much of a queue when I got there at 8.45 (opens at 9), but by 8.50 there were loads.
By the time I got in, I must have been about 20th in the queue, I was told that the scarves and purses were gone (there must have been only very small number of these compared to other items), but I didn't see any cufflinks either. The knickers were in big sizes and not like the picture and the jewelry sets were again not like the picture.
I was standing next to an elderly lady who was moaning about everything, I did remind her everything was essentially free (I mean 5p is nothing!) and funds going to charity but she had a moan about giving a "donation" - they'll be expecting more than a penny then (!).
Sorry I missed out on the purse, but the items I have are very nice, and some I will put away for christmas, so not a bad morning's shopping.

Had a chat with a manager-type and he said they had an allocation of 5 items for 310 people for each of the 3 days. By this time (about 9.30) there were only cans, sweets, frisbees and balls left as far as I could see, so those at the end might be a bit disappointed.

    It's only a game

I think its a lovely idea and definately a way of cheering people up in the current climate!

I went to my local store on my way to work, everyone in the queue and all staff were lovely and I managed to get three different jewellry sets (no limits as other people have mentioned) knickers and a lovely passport wallet!

I think the posters moaning about the quality and manufacturing should find somewhere else to air their views, the whole point of this site is to save money. M&S are offering a fantastic deal.

There are 5 different jewellery sets so you can get one of each. You just can't get two of the same thing.
  • Is anyone going back for a return visit tomorrow? I hadn't planned on it as Im really happy with what I got. However as I am the only one in my family who goes past M&S on the way to work and the others missed out I have a feeling I will have no choice! :-s

I agree with this poster, I was in the queue by 8.35 and had a lovely chat with the ladies round about while we admired the M&S windows and discussed how they have produced styles reminiscent of days gone by in their summer dress range and how nice they were. It was a nice way to start off the day and was able to donate to charity at the same time.
  • Hi everyone
I got to the Preston store at 8.30 when there was about 30 people in front of me. SAs gave out the scratchcards in the queue, I got 12.5% off £30 spend on clothes! Also got pretty silk scarf, leopard print knickers (only a few sizes), socks, mug and a vintage look brooch. Word of warning though...if you are queuing tomorrow at Preston go to the entrance on Fishergate as they were not allowing people to join the queue who had waited downstairs in the shopping centre.

I'm going along to one tomorrow as I have to go into a town with an M&S anyway. I'll be there at 8am so instead of wandering around Tesco's bored out of my mind I shall taken my mp3 player and queue. If I don't get anything it won't be a total loss as I have to go anyway, it's just something a little different to do when waiting. Will remember to bring some brekkie though as I'll be there an hour before opening because of the bus timetable  Hope I pick up a few things as I have my mother's birthday, my father's birthday and fathers day coming up!
