Reverbie your posts don't make sense.
Before you take a shot at me, you didn't refer to me in this thread but last time I looked I'm still allowed to read threads and post my opinion.
This..ms crow I know from speaking to managers at several stores on the phone, several customer service reps, staff at stores AND from their Head Office. Please dont presume I take my only info form a messagebaord and take messageboard posts as gospel
then this..
Interested also to know that other people define one phone call to my local branch as hounding. I would have thought hounding was like calling them every day rather than sitting here for the best part of a week now waiting for them to return my call....:rotfl:
You post everywhere on mse that you have no contact with your mother.Apparently my diabetic mum woke up blind one day and luckily managed to get her sight back. She soon gave up going to the regular diabetic clinics after diagnosis due to being overweight and never managed her diet properly nor took any exercise. She is/was on insulin (not sure of her state now as we are no longer in contact) and the last I heard she seemed to get larger and larger
but pull her out of the bag to back up your argument on this thread.rob the whole point of standing there for all those hours was to benefit from this bazaar as I was getting things for my disabled mother then I really did not get any benefit out of this experience..
I think you are the one who needs to get a grip on reality and see this promotion for what it was. A fun event to raise a bit of money for charity. You'll proberly keep chasing your voucher and and if you spend enough time on it and money in phonecalls etc you'll proberly get your it or compensation for it. I'm all for getting good value for money but what you are doing is IMHO petty and deffo not in the spirit of charity.0 -
I am stunned by some of the comments here. There have been complaints that it was not genourous enough, as if any other high st retailer would even think of giving away 2 Million items in aid of charity.
That it was a just a marketing stunt, as if promoting yourself and your history is a bad thing. People need to look around and see what others are doing and judge M&S in comparrison. Complaining and holding M&S up to some standard that you would not think of applying to 99% of other companys is unfare.
For the record though last weeks Penny bazzar was the start of th M&S charity drive. The company intends to raise 125 million in 125 days. a lot of that will be raised by company staff and not be noticed by customers at all. Just by the hundreds of charitys that will benefit.
Its sad that for some, nothing is good enough.0 -

Sorry if this has already been asked, but I wonder where did they get the 2 million items and what did they cost to buy?

I wonder what the company spent on the massive advertising campaign, compared to how much was raised for charity?

There have been some extremely generous offers out there, (Boots points, Debenhams, drinks evenings at various big stores for cardholders. To be fair, they are from struggling organisations desperate to attract more business, but if you are asking for comparison as to what is in it for the customer......

Excellent, let them continue the worthy works behind the scenes.

I think that it was just a let down compared to the hoo haa in the press. When we went, staff pressed a heavy bag of cans of sweet sugary drinks into our hands, invited us to hang about in a queue - at the end of the queue were - buckets, the guilt trip. Some customers just felt manipulated.0 -

Very well said.
Complaints about no knickers left in the customer's size, or no more ties/scarves, etc on this thread leave a bad taste in my mouth. Get up earlier and queue for longer next time; I'd have loved a scarf and the knickers I got were a size too big (saving them for potential maternity wear) but you don't see me whining. I had great fun, met some great people, got some cute, pretty, kitsch, tasty, useful treats and did a bit for charity and M&S have only gone up in my estimation.
In times like these, people should be MORE grateful and appreciative.:rolleyes:0 -

The local Polish builders couldn't understand what was going on with all the queuing - they said it was just like their country in the old days!0 -

I doubt they've spent 125million on the marketing, only to raise it for charity0 -
What is your point?
M&S did not spend £125 M on charity, so they are bad?
MS mixed marketing with charity and so they are bad?
Will all you wingers go boil your heads or get a life.
Everything a company does for charity is beneficial marketing, so companies can either a) not give to charity, or b) do it on the quiet, so not to appear hypercritical in the eyes of some. Well M&S does loads of charity work - ever wonder why they do not sell the food close to sell by date off cheap? It goes to charity! (homeless shelters, etc).
M&S are under no obligation to do anything and they did - they used business sense to mix the two. I am waiting for people to openly criticise every promotional item where x pence goes to charity. Should we have boycotted Flora tubs when they donate to heart foundations, or the red nose edition wines for giving a pound to the cause, or just the whole of sainsbury's for getting involved in it.
M&S is one of the few stores with its own backbone and not 100% by the whims of investment companies. I am glad that it is not part of the happy Walmart family and has a distinctive brand and ethics................ Have you ever wondered what

I used to work at the Marble Arch branch and all the food close to sell by went in the staff shop at 50% off.AKA: PC
