The poster wrote that they queued from 7.20 and was out of the shop at 8.10, that's not exactly 5am is it? And the money for charity is a donation for a good cause and voluntary...
either way q'in from early for a penny towel/mug/cufflink, e.t.c is madness.

Well, surely that was what was advertised - an anniversary celebration whereby customers could buy items for 1p!

I would like to include other types of people who could queue before 9am without affecting theirs or other peoples moral consciences about work:

    Uni Students
    Flexi office workers
    Night shift workers
    Evening child care providers
    Nurses/health care professionals
    Professional drivers (white van man)
    work-from-home staff
    Carers
    Disabled
    Long/short term sick leave
    Insomniacs

.. The list is fairly long.
also the self employed... My flatmate has his own business and works seven days a week including evenings and sometimes all night shifts. He works every day but can make the time to fit in things he wants to do.

also further to previous posters my mother lives a long way away and has mobility issues and some sight problems at times. I went to queue up for her one morning so that as a lifelong regular loyal M&S customer herself she might have the chance to have a few commemerative items and I am sure I am not the only one who did something like this for others.

You can't walk down the high street nowadays without being accosted by 'chuggers' and having charity tins rattled at you. Please... not in the shops too... M & S already take money for carrier bags from customers 'for charity'- isn't that enough?

Because the cufflinks sounded great! I wear cufflinks for work (I have about 25 pairs :D) and wish I managed to get some!

If you don't like the offers and don't like it the offers, get your cufflinks from the pound store! :rotfl:
