Hello
Next week - from Wednesday for three days only - Marks and Spencers will be offering items for 1p to commemorate their 125th Birthday. It is my understanding these items are available for 1p as a minimum suggested donation to their 125 Charity.
I have read that there will be around 20 items - which includes; jewellery sets, purses, underwear, cufflinks, ties and socks. leather passport holders, tea towels, mugs, retro sweets and drink, beach toys and beach balls .. :T
The information I read suggests that this will be on at their 300 main stores- and suggest people get there early as once its gone .. its gone
Information I read is on yahoo! news pages
Hope this helps

Please remember Quidco!! - I always forget to put that in my posts- but not any more :A

More information on daily mail website - looks like customers will be limited to 5 items each - and it will be held in all of their 300 main stores.
Hope that helps some more

Marks & Spencer will celebrate its 125th birthday next week by returning to its origins as a penny bazaar and putting 2 million products on sale for 1p each.
M&S, founded by Russian refugee Michael Marks as a Leeds market stall in 1884, will sell product ranging from purses and cufflinks to socks and sweets at Original Penny Bazaars, which will be set up in about 300 shops.
The retailer expects the promotion, running from Wednesday to Friday next week, to drive massive footfall. M&S executive chairman Sir Stuart Rose – who will launch the initiative with M&S face Twiggy at the flagship Marble Arch store on London’s Oxford Street – said: “We are sure this is going to go down a storm.”
Rose added: “M&S has now been at the heart of Britain for 125 years and we believe this is something worth celebrating.
“It’s been a tough year for us all but people are fed up with being fed up and we wanted to give our customers a real treat.”
The Original Penny Bazaar lines will be sold on a when-it’s-gone-it’s-gone basis, and takings donated to the M&S 125 Charity Challenge.

Without wishing to take away from the generosity of M&S's offer (and its brilliance as a piece of retail theatre) it's worth pointing out that in those days there were 240 pennies to the pound. So even at the generous price of one moden penny, goods will have suffered inflation of 240%. Inflation is the real 'stealth tax'.

Oh my God!!! What do you want from life??
I for one, wouldn't want to return to "the good old days" when we got 240 pennies to the pound!!
Well done to Marks and Sparks. Good retail strategy in my opinion.
How do we find out which stores are offering this?

I can't help but wonder where the stock for this promotion is being sourced from and at what knock down prices the supplier have had to supply it at.The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0
