Might be a marketing ploy for the company, but the staff are very dedicated to making money for these charities, loads of people in my store are giving up there own time to raise money and we've sorted loads of stuff to happen in store to raise money.
    Dooyoo £10.40/40, TopCashBack £17.19/30, Valued Opinions 50p/£10, Swagbucks 0/£20, Ebay £15/£25

perhaps because they had been made redundant
maybe they were on a day off
maybe they were in work later on
maybe they were long term unemployed

I would like to include other types of people who could queue before 9am without affecting theirs or other peoples moral consciences about work:

    Uni Students
    Flexi office workers
    Night shift workers
    Evening child care providers
    Nurses/health care professionals
    Professional drivers (white van man)
    work-from-home staff
    Carers
    Disabled
    Long/short term sick leave
    Insomniacs

.. The list is fairly long.

So much money and groaning on this thread! This M&S campaign is a great promotion for customers, M&S and charity. If people don't like it, don't go! :)

What if you do like it and wanted to join in but can't?
What if M&S is a store you shop at weekly for your grocery but because you are disabled,
too old to queue for so long,
unable to get there at 6am or whatever time the queue started
at work, either voluntary, paid or child/relative related
were up all night with said child/work
or (worse) did queue, make the time and got to the front, only to find that sweets and fizzy sugar drinks were the only thing on offer, and you were diabetic/anorexic or had dental issues that prevented you from making any use of anything.

I don't think its the issue of groaning about whats on offer, as much as not being fair for the vast majority of the customers who do shop with M&S. Though no doubt they got the publicity and column inches.

Well the answer to most of your questions in my opinion is simply, tough, that's life. If you don't use a computer you can't buy X tickets for a concert or if you cant get up at 3am be the first in the Next sale. Unfortunately that's just the way it is... What else could they do? At least queueing is fair to the point if you do take the time to queue you reap a reward of some sort... Perhaps i'm being harsh, but the items were free and 'while stocks last'.

My mum has health problems so couldn't easily get to the shops, so I took flexi time at work, drove to Bluewater in the morning and queued with her, then went in to work after... We managed to get socks, a mug, a brooch, a few other bits and some tat like a frisbee! lol :D

I thought the things I bought we pretty decent for a penny. [/b]what are you expecting?[/b] i donated a £1 and got 2 x rosy apple sweets (which i shared with my work collegues), a can of ginger beer, a mug and a teatowel. decent offerings for a £1 i'd say!

I went on the way to work at the monument store. Started queuing at 7:20, store opened at 7:30 was out again by 8:10. Slow queue but thats because they were controlling people which was better than the scrum it could have been.

The poster wrote that they queued from 7.20 and was out of the shop at 8.10, that's not exactly 5am is it? And the money for charity is a donation for a good cause and voluntary...
