  • Both I and my daughter were out of contract with EE. Tried to haggle a sim only deal but they wouldn't shift on a £19:99 per month for 16 gb and unlimited txt and talk. Went to Bt and got 15 gb and got unlimited tx and talk and an Amazon voucher for £40. After doing the maths ( sell old iPhone Amazon voucher £10 saving per month on old plans etc) I figured that buying a new iPhone up front and having the BT deal I will be paying £26 per month over 24 months. Picking up the iPhone SE 64 gb tomorrow. Try and get that on the high street. BT current deal runs out in 3 days time.

I took up an offer with three online as it had a discount to new customers. 6 months Half Price on a 12 year deal. It was SIM only and meant instead of paying £16 for the year I was paying £12. Brilliant I thought so went to leave vodafone of which I have been a customer for a number of years. I told them the deal I had, and I wanted my PUK number. BOOM. Onto the retention team. I really liked the free internet abroad with three and mentioned this (worth noting I had went through with the three deal in parallel - I was actually going to leave! Just cancelled within the 14 day period).

Not only did vodafone beat the payments at £10.80pm for 12 months but they gave me free internet in pretty much all of europe, at least the same countries as three along with a whopping 4gb of data and unlimited everythin else! Previously it was £3 per day for the same privilege and basically doubled my bill whenever I went on a 7 day holiday. Now it was free! Now I don't have to think about it. Something definitely I recommend doing.

So was originally on £19.80pm, now on £10.80, so £66 saving per year. Throw in a couple of holidays at £3 per day in my original deal and thats me saving £3 x 14days = £42.

So saving £7 saved a month, £108 per year inc. 14 days abroad.

    Thanks Martin!
  • I have been looking to upgrade to an s7 egde. found a deal, phoned three spent 35mins talking with someone who wanted to help me by costing me £6 more a mth at which stage she gave up and put me to there PAC team. After talking with them they could only cost me £10 more a mth which i said no to as well ( 8gb data unlimited texts and mins). Then came a deal by not upgrading my phone (an S5 still fully working). I got the 8gb data unlimited texts and mins for £13 a mth.

  • I am currently a PAYG customer and I was wondering if it was worth haggling in store when looking for a new phone. All the advice seems to be for existing customers. Do new customers just have to pay the price advertised?
  • So, I've been with three for almost 3 years now, started on a 12 month sim only my dad paid for. When I went off to uni, it got transferred to my name to keep the account loyalty and I upgraded to a 24 month contract with a phone for £33 a month which is coming to an end now. For what I will be using, their £9 a month, 4GB data with unlimited minutes and texts was right for me. So I phoned up to switch to this, and they couldn't do anything better than swap me over a month sooner, saving £24 on what I would have paid next month, decide to take it as the other deal I'd take is £10 a month with less minutes. They wouldn't do that price for a rolling 30 day contact, but said if I want to upgrade to with a phone, no fees at any point. All seams fine, but I notice the text they send me says I'm on the deal I want but for £12 a month and the website says I'm paying £15 a month. Phone up again and immediately put myself through to cancellations (can from pre-recorded menu) and say I'm leaving as they've messed up the billing as well as having had this issue at the start of the contract with them charging more than they should and then taking ages to put the credit on the bill. They offer to sort out the contact so it is £9 a month and as goodwill to reduce this months bill to £9 as well. So if they manage it, saved £48 on last two months of my existing contract and cheapest deal on the market as well. Also, for those on three, cancellation fees are zero 7 days before your penultimate bill (or at least for me) so if the contact started on October 30th, you can cancel fee-free on Septemeber 23rd (week before allowance resets).

Saw the latest Three phone deal on Martin's email and had a look. 4Gb data, unlimited calls and texts for £9 a month on a 12 month contract. My current contract with EE was £7.89 a month for 500Mb and 120 mins with free texts. Called EE for my PAC and got put through to retentions. The end result was that EE offered me 4GB data, unlimited calls and texts and free EU call and text for £8.99 a month (no data but still better than Three). This was usually £21.99 a month for 12 months but customer loyalty reduced to £8.99. Needless to say, I took the deal. A happy customer. :T

You need to look for a 4G compatible phone. Plenty out there at various price points. Just Google and then choose. If you do upgrade to a 4G phone then try haggling again with T Mobile (if you are successful, they will transfer your contract to EE for 4G as they did with me a couple of years ago). See my post about haggling my contract with EE stating that I was leaving because of the Three deal. They bettered it without too much encouragement. Good luck.

Thank you for the advice I called T mobile and they offered me unlimited texts and calls plus 2 things of data (not used) and voicemail on EE for £9.99, yours is a £1 less but not had voicemail in the past and this will be useful, so will carry on with my phone, good all round!
    Many thanks

Currently on EE - 2 years with them and 2 years previously with TMobile. Also have another mobile on account with EE (3years in total)

Asked for PUK - they asked why. I explained I'd seen 2 separate deals on a LG G5 with Vodafone and Three which were £3-£6 a month cheaper. Basically said ok here's your code and hope you come back in future.

Looks like Vodafone for me - too many horror stories about Three and no reception
