I was paying way over the odds with Vodafone - £37 per month for 1Gb data, and my contract is not up until 5th May (it's now December). I called Vodafone and they confirmed that it would cost me £142 if I left now - so that was not an option. The advisor I spoke to said that he was unable to offer me any discounts or deals to stay. Very frustrating.
But we then found a solution!
To cut a long story short, I am now paying just £19 per month for a 2GB data plan until my contract is up! They have switched me to a rolling 30-day SIM-only contract. Which means that I have not had to extend my contract for another 12 months - I can still leave on 5th May. Still not the best deal out there by a long shot. But I'm now paying less, and for more data.
Happy bunny.:j0 -
That's assuming you actually get what they agreed and they haven't simply set up a second contract.0

We got caught by changing contract in store only to find it was a poor deal - we called and spoke to retentions to ask for a better deal but as we signed in store - no cooling offer period so the cancellation fee is equal to what we would pay for the contract.
Moral of the tale - don't renew in person!0 -
More important lesson is - shop around before renewing, not after.0

Vodafone haggling success (sim only, retention):
£18.33/mo (£220) for 22GB of data + free £120 entertainment package + unlimited calls/texts
Retention staff initially freely offered a retention offer of 50% discount off 20GB + 2GB bonus (normally £45).
On rejection of this (GiffGaff is only £20 for unlimited!) I was offered £20/mo with the first month free (£18.33 eqv) factoring in the free 12mo spotify saving (£120) - leaves me paying just £100 (£8.33/mo) for a near-unlimited package.0 -
I read the article, then decided to phone 3 and have a go.
I had £49.00 pcm for an Iphone 6 32g with unlimited minutes, texts and 4g data on a 24 month contact from January 2015.
I first spoke to retentions (although I cant get out of my contract for another 8 months) then spoke to customer services then finance then complaints department.
They asked me how much I expected to get off my bill - I stated I did not have a figure in mind but more than £3 that I was offered.
Finally got down to £35 per month (27 minute phone call) - I complained about the signal (they cant prove it one way or another) How i have been passed from pillar to post as no one could seem to help me and the best they told me they could offer was £3 off pcm and a fee waiver of £10 for downgrading the contact (which did not happen in the end).
Chuffed!
Now for the rest of my bills.... energy, car insurance, home and building insurance, TV and broadband,
Good luck everyone!0 -
