@lbh this now appears to be the case for EE as well.0

Orange (at least the old Orange pre-France Telecom) was a superb company that cared for its customers much more than the competition. Those days are long gone in my opinion.Do EE care about trying to retain loyal customers anymore? My experience does not seem to indicate this.
To be hoenst I doubt any of the networks care to retain loyalty. It's all about how much they make out of you these days...0 -

When I last upgraded in 2008 I managed to obtain a Sony Ericsson C902 for free and a reduction in contract monthly payments for a year.
What annoys me in my situation is that I have been paying over the odds for my contract on Orange for a considerable period of time and have paid for a new handset and contract at least once over. Orange/EE have been happy to take the money off me every month!
The conversation I had today meant that the tariffs would be the same as everyone else but he handset would be cheaper. Then again you are paying for the handset in the monthly cost all they seem to be doing was reduce the amount you pay upfront.0 -
Hi
I have a mobile with Tesco and there has been limited or no signal for the last 3 weeks due to a broken mast nearby. They have no idea how long it will take to be fixed. I am a childminder and rely heavily on using a mobile for safety reasons. I've called Tesco saying I want to cancel the contract. I have 15 months left on it at the moment. They are willin the waiver the line rental but not the handset fee which is £225. I'm really not willing to pay it but want to go back to the manager with a good argument in place. Can anyone help with wording please?
TIA

If £225 is the original price of the handset, they have no grounds for getting it back in full as you've been making payments for it for 15 months.
The contract cancelled without fees and the handset returned to Tesco - that's what you have to demand.
Wording - they breached the contract by failing to provide the service for unreasonably long time.
EDIT: is it a contract with separate "Monthly usage payable" and "Monthly phone payment"? If so, is £225 the remaining "phone payments"? In this case Tesco are absolutely right. Ask them to unlock the phone if it's locked and move to another network PAYG or sim-only. If they demand a lump sum insist that you want to keep making monthly payments for the phone only.0 -
Hi, has anyone successfully haggled with O2 recently (with a SIM only offer)?
I'm currently paying £11.12 for 500mins unlimited texts and 500mb data.
I called them up to request my PAC code as Three were offering a better deal for pretty much the same price but the best the CS advisor would offer me was 1GB data etc for £14 on a 12 month contract. When I politely replied why would I pay more for the same he just gave me my PAC code.
I have been a customer for donkeys years and they don't seem that bothered about keeping me as a customer (unless SIM only customers don't qualify for such perks). I'd prefer to stay with O2 but if they don't care...0 -
Now that landline providers are starting to offer inclusive calls to mobile numbers from landlines, it's time to re-evaluate how many call minutes you need on your mobile phone and reduce your mobile phone call plan accordingly.0

You can get the same bundle on cashback deal which is cheaper than that with a cheap phone but which ends up costing about £2 a month - IF you know what you're doing.0

So I called 3 today and had the money saving expert guide up in front of me - the call went exactly as it was laid out in the guide - awkward silence and all!
Had my research ready (best deal I could find was ID Mobile so quoted them). Anyway after 20 minutes of haggling I've walked away with:
Unlimited Calls
Unlimited Texts
4GB Data (with tethering)
For £11 a month.
Very happy thanks for the guide!!0 -
My contract for my iPhone 5S is due to end in January, but I have been eligible to upgrade my tariff and have a 'SIM Only' contract since last month. I decided to look around and benchmarked the best prices using comparison websites.
I call Vodafone (waiting 15 minutes for an answer) and asked for my PAC code. They asked why, I told them I plan on going elsewhere when my contract ends, as Vodafone's SIM only deals don't seem to be at all competitive. I was transferred a couple of time and got through to what you might call 'retentions'.
Without sounding too enthusiastic about paying £32 for Netflix or Spotify I didn't really want, and asking a couple of times "can't you do any better" we arrived at at 30% discount on the 10Gb plan
£22.40 a month inclusive of VAT with the first two months free (£17 average monthly cost) for
-Netflix free for 12 months (Saving me an additional £5.99)
-Unlimited Minutes
-Unlimited Texts
-10Gb of Data
-12month contract (with 30 days notice to cancel)
Very pleased!0
