I called Virgin Mobile (my current provider) yesterday for a PAC code and to cancel my contract as I had already signed up to a Tesco SIM only deal, but the offer they made me means the Tesco SIM will be heading back to them under the 14 day cancellation rule!

What Virgin Mobile gave me as a retention incentive.

    1200 anytime minutes.
    Unlimited Texts
    Unlimited Data
Unlimited Calls to other Virgin mobiles.
    30 day rolling contract.
New nano SIM and 2 Micro SIM adapters to allow it to fit in my iPhone 4 until I buy my 5S in a few days time.

    Cost..... £5.00 per month. :j

  • My contract is due for an upgrade as is my daughter and son. I was going to have my daughters iphone 4 and just upgrade my tariff. My daughter would like the iphone5s. Does anyone know whether it would be better to transfer to a different provider or see if vodafone will do a deal as the tariffs are all quite high. My son may also change to a 5s.

Iphone tariffs have very little latitude, I was told. The prices are dictated by Apple.

Are you sure £5?; seems unreal to me
  • Just a quick enquiry really...
Does anyone know if this will work with the carphone warehouse?

iPhone's using SIM-only tariffs are not so constrained, and the deals are considerably better.

Yup. Couldn't believe it myself, but I have indeed had £5 taken this month and this is what my online allowance page shows:

    Three won't budge for me.

I'm only on £6.90 SIM Only. Been with them a year (joined with big cashback last year). T-Mobile is a few quid more but extra minutes. The guy even went on the T-Mob site to check. He even admitted I don't need the minutes, then tried to offer extra minutes to stay @ 6.90

Asked how I'd get it for less, so I said the Auto Cashback from third party, then he slated third parties & t-mob in general!

Wouldn't give me more data, so I said I'll think about it. They were very pushy though. Was hoping I'd get it knocked down to £6 or £5.

Chances are I can't move to T-Mobile (serious debt), so best thing is to stick around on rolling deal, rather than signing a new 12m one, and see if any better offers come up to threaten to leave with?
