Well I hope this is the end of a very unhappy saga.
I called CS again last night. The girl told me that there was no sign of any MAC code order and yet on Monday a chap said that it could be viewed on their database and it should just take a matter of days.
Was told that it was out of their hands and all she could do was pass it on the "problem accounts" dept. She couldn't give me any names, phone numbers or email address for this department. She said all I could do was to wait to hear from them and there was no point in calling CS again. The address she gave me was just the address that I found in TT T&C for complaints and never got a response to my letter written on 13/3.
Called again this morning. The CS chap was very sympathetic. Said he'd look into whole affair and would call me back. He did two hours later with a MAC code.
Thank goodness but I will always be careful in future who I go with. I can't possibly recommend TT. You get different stories each time you speak to a different person, can't speak to managers and don't get responses to letters or emails. I have no idea what the last guy did to get the MAC code. Was too tired to pursue any further. Hope the migration process goes smoothly.0 -
Still waiting for my MAC code. TT really arn't up to much on cust service. Like you say they just ignore e-mails and give you different stories. Anyone know what happens if u can't get a MAC code. Does it cost more to sign up to a new supplier?0

A MAC (Migration Authorisation Code) enables the seamless transfer of broadband services so you won't have to go without broadband when you switch providers.
Without a MAC you will need to wait for your old provider to remove the ADSL (Broadband) from your line and your new provider will have to reinstall it. Usually from start to finish you'll be without broadband for at least 2 weeks if you switch providers without a MAC.
It shouldn't cost you more to switch providers without a MAC (unless your new provider charges up front for connection charges, these are usually lessened or waived if you supply a MAC), for the customer it is more about the inconvenience factor of having to go without broadband.
Ofcom have an area dedicated to migrations and features the Broadband migration - Industry code of practice - this is an ethical voluntary code that ISPs can choose to sign and do business by: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/advice/codes/bbm_cop/
At the bottom of the site is a list of ISPs who have signed the code. If your ISP in on this list, they cannot withhold a MAC from you (however this will not waive any contractual obligations held by either party).
As a consumer you have more rights if you're with an ISP who has signed the code. Thus in the future I would recommend only using ISPs on this list and apply pressure to the ISPs who haven't yet signed the code.Madasafish Customer Care0 -
Well I've gone for it and signed up with Madasafish. Their customer services are already better. They email you even if you are not a customer yet( see my earlier post). Shame I couldn't say the same for TT. Best of luck Cheghead.0

Well, this estimate is extremly optimistic.
If you happen to be with e7broadband it will be more like 2 years. People have been trying desperately to get away from them or get a MAC. Both things have been absolutely impossible for some customers.
Some had to resort to cancelling the whole phone line and get a new one just to be able to get a new broadband provider, as e7 would not release their line. People are still going truhgh court to get some form of refund from e7 for their disastrous behaviour with customer transfers.
And I ave read many other stories of extremly difficult transfers for the refusal of companies to release your line marker.0 -
Not that I care anymore as long as the migration goes OK, just to let you all know that there has still been no contact from a senior manager or replies to two letters. I cancelled my DD a while back and I believe I still owe them money. I wonder if TT will be a little more proactive in contacting me over this issue!!!0

FREE AT LAST!!!!!
I've mentioned it elsewhere too but just to let people know that TT have stopped letting people call the freephone number and also the landline 0208 number.
So if any of you struggle to get your MAC codes in future, make sure you deduct the cost of calling the 0870 number from your final bill.0 -
Well, I may be counting my chickens too soon, but I owe TT money ( not a lot on the great scheme of things, under a tenner) after cancelling my DD. Not a dickie bird from TT. I had paperless billing and when I look at the online-billing part, the account has been deregistered. I can't even see the final bill.
Is this really the end of my tale of woe and have I had the last laugh?0 -

I you go to Tiscali and first log on to Dell website I believe theres a link from them to get 1st month Tiscali bb free.
And that will be jumping from the frying pan into the fire. If you think TalkTalk is bad, just wait until you try to get away from Tiscali.:eek:0 -
Its cheap, but having been a Talktalk Broadband customer for the past year, let me please warn you they are a bunch of monkeys! I cant wait to get out and stay well away..
They block ALL P2P or filesharing software, so if you use Shareaza/Limewire forget it
They may lie and tell you they dont restrict downloads, but its cleverly worded in their T&Cs
Check https://www.adslguide.org and look at what ppl have been saying about them.
Tech support line costs 50p per min
Do not join Talktalk - you'll regret it.....0
