Car Scrappage Scheme

What/how do you negogiate on prices when all the small cars are on a waiting list according to the dealers. One dealer has told me he onlymakes £90 on a new pixo.I call that BS,that would not pay the overheads on the showroom.
All manufacturers have put up prices since the scrappage scheme.0 -
I dont think you can negotiate on the little cars - and whilst that sounds like BS apparently its true about the profit on each car. There is a car dealer on here somewhere who could explain better, but apparently the money comes in form of bonuses quarterly or something, not per unit. I know I didnt believe the VW dealer when he told me they only made £200 profit on a Golf.

Don't think it would be too much of a problem - what are you thinking of taking off.
If you have just put some new tyres on, for eg, then it might be worth finding some nearly bald (but still legal) ones to put on.
If you want to keep the radio/CD or whatever why not?
I would

Thanks but they are out of my price range.
So is there a post anywhere giving pointers for haggling and best times to buy?
Buy at anytime as there is very little margin in a small cars for dealers so the time you buy won't make any difference unless the scrappage allowance runs out, don't forget most cars now are factory order only which could be 12 weeks,
Maybe ask for extras like floor mats & a full tank of fuel, I am also inquiring about combining the first 3 services into 1 payment which can also save a lot of money Toyota quoted around £350 for the first 3 services instead of around £600, these services will be tied to the dealership though,
I am looking at the 3 door Toyota aygo for £5485 including scrappage on the road, cheaper than the C1 & 107 which are the same car,
I have been to VW & Toyota & Citroen and all would offer discount if you didn't have a car to scrap, but as soon as you mention scrappage allowance all 3 will only work from there manufacturers RRP in the brochure.0 -
i wouldn't leave it too long kia prices rise at end of june, and ford have gone up 4% today though they say they will honour orders already made. you can bet there will be others following suitITV comp winner no 410

Hyundai Top-up Scrappage deals end at the end of June aswell, so I can see i10's & i20's increasing in price.Next year we'll be millionaires!0
