Car Scrappage Scheme

Thanks to whoever posted the latest BERR FAQ on this, I hadn't noticed they'd updated their site.
And annoyingly, they've now covered the issue of "spouse" ownership of the vehicle. As my Ex transferred the V5 to my name on 1 March this year, it seems I will not be able to partake of the scheme (as it expires in Feb 2010).
Looks like I'll be hunting down a decent deal instead of using scrappage.
Thanks to everyone who's tried to answer my questions on this in the past.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

When and if technology improves so that cars for most peoples needs come in at £35 tac p.a., rest assured that the govt will ramp up the road tax agian to restore the income it takes for granted.
Without a doubt. The fact that bands B and C are the same at the moment, it is inevitable that they will not stay the same for too long.0 -
ordered my picanto on 23rd of may priced at 4495, two days earlier it was 4195! oh well best not to dwell on that, have heard of people ordering at the cheaper price being phoned up by the dealer to be told it would now cost them more despite i assume having signed a contract. what worries me is my car isn't expected until late august possibly September, today i received a brochure from kia promoting the scrappage scheme stating prices valid untill 31st july i have my paper work with 4495 on it but does this actually mean anything if not i'm stuffed!
You would need to seek some legal advice but I would assume that the price you sign up to is the price you pay.
On a slightly different note, are there any manafacturers who have not hiked their prices up? My mate who lives in Blackpool said when he went past the old Hyundai garage (now closed) the old advert is still in the window for 58 plate brand new cars from £5995. Cheapest Hyundai now 7K0 -

Still cheaper than the £200 (or thereabouts) per year I was paying previously. Get the diesel engine and it is only £35 per year.0 -

I wouldn't say £90 next year is high, when my old escort would have been £205.
Although with the 2010 bands being, A £0 B £20 C £30 D £90 E £110, it does seem like an unfair jump for band D. An i20 has 3% more CO2 emissions than some cars in band C yet the tax is triple. Hopefully this will change in years to come.Next year we'll be millionaires!0 -
What a wonderful idea (sorry i can't help being sarcastic) suddenly the people who own 10 year old cars like me will get a lovely £2000 off a new car - very nice who is going to pay the rest, because I expect that like me anyone driving a 10 year old car can't afford a new car whether it has 2k off or not. I think Gordon Brown should crawl under a rock and stay ther for a very long time0

70,000 people, including myself, prove otherwise.Next year we'll be millionaires!0 -
Let's just agree that this little bit of political showmanship by the govt does benefit a small slice of the car owning population. Let's not think too hard about the big benefits UK PLC could have had if the same taxpayer's money had bee targeted more thoughtfully on real economy-stoking measures.0

Thing is Wollop, its not just the £2k that most of us are getting off, we are hopefully also all negotiating for a fair bit more off too. Its been an incentive to many of us to get a first new car and I for one really look forward to that.0
