People are struggling in every sector, not just the motor industry. My dil just been made redundant from hotel chain - after 5 years service. Son is on short time in the building trade.

If the government had put more money into our own manufacturing industries..................

i know, in my job i visit lots of very different industries, only a handful are busy, most are quiet.
if we had a half decent manufacturing industry then a lot of our other industries would look after themselves due to buisness created by the manufacturing sites.

I think this scrappage scheme is going to turn the residuals of these little bread and butter cars on its head. They have never had fantastic residuals (give or take a couple of them) and now there will be so many of them the next buyers down the chain will get the real bargains.
Just my opinion, for what it's worth.

I think that you make a valid point, their prices have been forced upwards by the greed of makers taking part, once reality is restored, and a few buyers find that they cannot afford finance repayments, prices are almost bound to plummet ..

Indeed as well as the Finance Companies themselves, but they get their money from the banks I suspect, so this government incentive could well be feeding the very people that caused this mess in the first place.

does the dealer send copies of the paperwork for validation (v5c, mot, tax, insurance certificate) to Berr before they pay £1000 gov scrappage allowance to the manufacturer.

    no

the dealer checks and confirms that all paperwork is valid, and retains a copy for their own files
