as most manufacturers are now working on a built-to-order process, then you will find that most cars are on a 12wk+ lead time, so that would take you up to December and beyond

however once you order a car under the scrappage scheme, you application is only valid for 3m, and then you have to reapply. With most manufacturers saying that the scrappage scheme will run out mid October, then should you car be delayed in December, it may well be that your lose your scrappage allowance. How manufacturers deal with this, is yet to be seen

That is pretty worrying  I hope they are fair about this if it happens to anyone

Is 12 weeks standard? I thought that 8 weeks was nearer the standard factory build time?

Don't forget that if your car doesn't arrive until january then the VAT will go up, costing you 2.5% more.

just look at the posts on this thread. Ordered May/June, when scrappage first started, and some people are still awaiting delivery

8wks was usually quoted, when there was overstock. now every car is built to order, lead times are usually quoted as12wks. but as some manufacturers have a shut down in the summer, even those on order have been shunted back

Blummin heck it gets worse :(

I wonder if any dealers might compensate for that happening?

My daughters set her heart on the new polo now but after reading this I'm going to suggest perhaps she might want to look at ones that might be already in stock or will definitely be in before the scrappage deal 3 month is affected and the vat increase
    Thanx

Lady K, if she goes on VW's website she can play around changing the specs and also the colours of her chosen car. My Golf had 3 colours as standard, black, red or silver. We chose the tornado red. Oh and the brokers should get it a bit quicker as they tend to use Dealers who buy in fleets of cars.

Most of the complaints about delays appear to be centered around the hyundai which I thought was because of how popular it has been in the scrappage scheme and because they then have to be shipped from Korea.

I was only asking because i have ordered a factory build from Renault and was quoted 8 weeks. I imagine that I will probably end up waiting longer though which is annoying as I currently have no car.

My experience of ordering my car recently through a broker was that it was almost impossible to get hold of one in a non metallic colour. They all told me that they get a discount on metallic paint and any stock cars they had were in metallic.

I did manage it in the end though as I expressly wanted a non metallic colour.
  • I will have owned my old rust bucket for 12 months in a few days now and will be taking it into VW to have it scrapped and purchase a Polo, obviously I'm looking for the best deal.

Does anybody know how much they will give me for the banger and also what the best price they would give me for a new Polo s 1.2 70PS, would they offer me a better del than the VW websire states if I haggle with them?

If they wont budge on price then I will be buying a used one from them that was registered in July and has 3k on the clock, any idea what price I should pay for one of these?

As you can see I know nothing about cars (or their prices) and I'm also very skint.

    Thank you :)

Can you get the scrappage scheme on a used Car? I thought that it was only new cars?

Looking around a few internet brokers etc it seems like they aren't offering much of a discount at all on the new Polo so VW's price may be the best.
