Have a google - try some of the car brokers.

This one : and a few others, check out this site for more brokers. The prices shown are before scrappage

  • Do not be afraid of using car brokers it really is quite easy but some are better than others .

The one Hethmar suggested are very good and have used them .. My experance of Dealdrivers was very disappointing ??

I purchased a Vauxhall for my daughter last year and got the same deal through a Vauxhall dealer that I would have got through a broker so I would suggest if you are good a haggling find the best deal you can get through a broker and see if your local Vauxhall dealership will match it but keep the negotiating friendly but stand your ground

Do the brokers give you a written quotation or by email that you can print off?

How does the money change hands then safely with a broker is it just like my house insurance broker they search for the best deal and I pay them then they send the paperwork and swap the cars?

And can you haggle with a brokers quote such as carfile?
    Thanx

The broker passes your enquiry to his main dealer who will contact you direct. I had the written quote aswell as emailed. You agree the deal and the main VW dealer will sort it all out for you.

The money is paid after the car arrives and you have inspected and ok'd it. I think I paid £200 as a deposit to show good faith. You DONT deal with the broker, you deal direct with the Main Dealer. You dont pay the broker anything - the main dealer will pay him some commission AFTER the deal is complete.

No, you cant haggle - you are getting the best price from a main dealer. carfile has nothing to do with the prices.
  • Just to add what hethmar has said the warranty is exactly the same and as if you bought from your local dealer and any repairs and servicing will be done at your local dealership just the same .

The discount they give you is the amount that the dealer has got to play with in the car !!

I emailed to ask if the scrappage deal was on the vw new polo and they emailed back saying they give £1750 scrappage on that, why is this lower than the £2000 offered most other places? To get a proper quote though daughter will have to speak to them but shes not had time to sort out her specs yet. They emailed back very quickly and were helpful but did say it would be better to have a chat about it by phone so they could explain everything properly

My mother in law is looking into buying a new car and I am looking into getting rid of my heap of rust. So my thoughts turned to the scrappage scheme. £1000 for my car is more than I'd get for it privately, so it seems a good idea. However, there's the issue of registered owner.

It's my understanding of the Scrappage Scheme that the new vehicle has to be registered in the name and at the address of the car being scrapped, i.e. mine. But the new car is to be my mother in laws.

Is there anything to stop me buying the new car (it'll be cash + scrappage) then immediately 'selling' it to my mother in law? Simply re-register it in her name, as if I'd sold it?

But then there's the matter of insurance. I'd have to get the car insured to drive it away from the dealer and for them to tax it. I'm guessing I'd have to insure it in my name first, but I'd then be stuck with a £380 insurance policy that isn't needed. Could I then cancel in the cooling off period?

The cheapest quote I got was £380 from Admiral. Their online policy documents suggest I could cancel within 14 days of receiving the welcome pack for a fee of £22.50. A 2 week, short term policy is going to be in the region of £90.

I dont know what all the other dealers are offering on the new Polo. But the point is, whats the bottom line you would have to pay? Thats what you need to compare.
