Car Scrappage Scheme

when you collect your new car, you leave your old one - there shouldnt be a delay between the two
the only reason you would scrap your old car, before taking ownership of your new one, is if your MOT/tax has run out, as you wouldnt be able to get it to the dealership on handover day otherwise - although some dealers arent keen on this, incase something goes wrong, and you now no longer want the new car, but your old car has been scrapped - too many risks
I would say the dealer was pulling a fast one, in that your new car wasnt actually ready to go yet, but by saying you had to bring your old car in first for clearance, meant you didnt feel you were being messed about with

Definitely not so in my case. The car was in stock in the dealer's compound four weeks before we collected it (waiting for the 59 reg).0 -

honestly, there is no reason why you cannot scrap your old and pick up your new car on the same day. all other manufacturers can do it, so the dealer you bought from is obviously doing something that is outside of the norm, one might question why
i also dont know of any dealers who can afford to have stock sitting in their yard for 4wks before handover. not just financially, but due to space constraints. for most dealers you need to have delivery/handover done within 1wk, but at new reg time, its usually 1-2 days turnaround

Champion, good to hear. Had to get the old car through another MOT in august due to the delay in getting the car built, never mind have needed it for work and i've done about 1500 miles in 5 weeks so it's paid for itself.0 -

Perhaps they were doing it exactly by the book and having a cert of destruction in their hands before suppling the new car. I simply can't think what advantage there is for a dealer in enforcing such a delay.
As for having the car in stock. We went into the dealership on 8 August. Decided on a green Mazda2 Tamura. Dealer said he had one coming in on 10 August that he had ordered for stock (ie without a customer order). we said we'll have that one for delivery in September. He agreed and we took delivery on 4 September.
We also bought a Mazda6 estate that was in the showroom on 8 August. We took delivery on 1 September. The dealer didn't seem to have any problems with this.
I don't see how you think dealers expect to turn stock cars around in 1 to 2 days? The reality is you read what you wanted to read not what I wrote.0 -

I've not forgotten....... How did it go? Do you like it? And if your reading this before the swap good luck and hope all goes smoothly.
PS done nearly 600 miles on my car and can't believe this time last week I was driving it home from Attleborough!
There is hardly any 59 plates around here in Dundee which I'm surprised about with the scrappage scheme. To date I've only seen 5. One is mine, two skoda octavia taxi's, a volvo and a suzuki.
I absolutely love my car. It's a dream to drive and is so comfy too.0 -

You CANNOT register a RHD vehicle in Poland. EU law says that you are able to, but Poland has found a loophole in order to refuse the registration of such cars.
The article is complete nonsense - while the spares may be coming our way, complete cars aren't.
Serious question - might cars be transiting Poland and heading outside the EU, e.g. Ukraine, Belarus etc.? They might not be as strict about registrations.0 -
He's here! woo hoo, bright shiny red sitting in my driveway smiling his head off, as am I :j0
