Car Scrappage Scheme

Perhaps they were doing it exactly by the book and having a cert of destruction in their hands before suppling the new car. I simply can't think what advantage there is for a dealer in enforcing such a delay.
As for having the car in stock. We went into the dealership on 8 August. Decided on a green Mazda2 Tamura. Dealer said he had one coming in on 10 August that he had ordered for stock (ie without a customer order). we said we'll have that one for delivery in September. He agreed and we took delivery on 4 September.
We also bought a Mazda6 estate that was in the showroom on 8 August. We took delivery on 1 September. The dealer didn't seem to have any problems with this.
I don't see how you think dealers expect to turn stock cars around in 1 to 2 days? The reality is you read what you wanted to read not what I wrote.
well if you had said you bought dealer stock, then it wouldnt be so out of the ordinary for them to find space for it, as it was for their own use (prob couldnt register it before 1st either due to restrictions). Display models too arent a constraint on space, as it looks good to have cars sitting in the showroom with a 'sold' ticket on - its not like you were taking up space, more leaving the cars where the dealer wanted them
I too cant think of any advantage for having a delay between scrap and hand-over, but seeing as yours is the only dealer who is following this practise, im just wondering what their thinking is on the matter. A destruction certificate is issued by the scrappie as soon as he takes possession of the car, with the dealer acting as the intermediary (similar to p/x to a trader) there is no need for this to be done before handover, you just fill in the correct part of the logbook, and get it sent off to dvla
it is fairly normal for an ordered car to be delivered, go through PDI and be handed over within 2 days. the longer the dealer has it sitting in their yard without the money forthcoming, is just bad business sense. Stock has a totally different way of being put through the dealership. Seeing as we are discussing scrappage, very few dealers have stock that they could plug down that route, most are dealing with built-to-order, which cant be left sitting idle on a forecourt. Tbh im suprised there are still manfucturers who have stock cars available, as since scrappage came in, most cars have been on 12wk+ leadtimes. Maybe in the early days of the scheme, but now? All the dealers i speak to, are finding it hard enough to source demonstrators, let alone have unregistered stock, that they would want to loose on a scrappage deal, where they make no money. Most are holding stock, so they have something to sell to retail price customers, who at the moment are walking, due to the lead times caused by scrappage
I can only reply to what you wrote, so this is why im clarifying my points now, that you have divulged a fuller picture

Yes, interesting to wonder how many sales are being lost due to folks with no old car to scrap feeling or actually being left out.0

In contradiction, this weekends’s "Telegraph" states that £100m spent so far, £200m remaining and that buyers should not feel pressurized:

I wonder if the £100m spent is those cars actually delivered though and that a lot of the £200m is already earmarked by people already ordering their new cars and still waiting for them?
Have to add, got ours Wednesday, travelled 300 miles to see relative and on the way I only counted 5 cars (sad or what) with a 59 reg plate - on the way back only 1 car with a 59 plate. That means an awful lot of people must be waiting for their new cars to be delivered.0 -
I've driven almost 700 miles in mine and I've only seen 5 "59" plates so far. I thought there would be loads with the scrappage scheme.
Maybe we are the lucky ones as we took the plunge and the majority will be 00 plates at this rate with the long wait folks are now being quoted for their cars.
I love mine. It drives like a rocket, it's so smooth and I have to confess it really doesn't feel or drive like a small car. It's as fast and nippy as my Volvo 460 sxi and that was a 1.8i engine.
Did I mention I've called my car Timothy? Anyone else confessing to naming theirs yet and if so what?
PS Loving the car pics, will try and get mine up soon but it's needing a wash already!0 -
Mine is Hugo
The thing is cheeky, if the wait is that long the dealers have to apply again for the funds so if the Government doesnt add more money to the pot, some people could be very choked.0
