I thought we were rushing in too early but its worked out just right for us, we had to wait 14 weeks for the new one from date of order. The dealer saw all the docs when we ordered and our old car didnt have to re re MOTd or insured and I got SORN on the tax when that ran out.
Oh just a note, dont spose it matters, but you do have to supply a copy of your driving licence - didnt know that til we received new car. Have hunted high and low and now had to order a new one.0 -
My daughter was told the other day by a vw dealer that it would be December at the earliest for a new polo if she ordered then which is longer than we had expected. Is it the same wait time for dealers and brokers or is one quicker than the other? She is just concerned that her car might not hold out that long.
She has chosen her specs now but is just going to pop into the dealers to look at a new golf so she can get an idea what the colours will be like as they should be a similar colour range to the new polo shouldnt they? Then shes going to get a carfile quote
She was saying that the black interior comes as standard with the new polo but if you choose metallic colour you have to pay extra to then get the black interior which seems a bit rubbishThanx

I'm convinced a lot of dealers will tell you anything that comes into their heads.
We had all sorts of inconsistencies when we were trying to source our vehicle but we definitely never had to supply a driving licence - it was never mentioned - which is just as well as I had "put it somewhere for safe keeping" and couldn't find it when I wanted to hire a van quite seperately.
We also had , for example, a dealer telling us there was no way we would get the vehicle we wanted this year (we got it elsewhere in a couple of weeks).0 -

My guess is you would have to provide identification Passport or driving licence in relation to money laundering regulations
Regarding availability of a certain vehicle you may find that some dealers may have a larger allocation of a particular model than smaller dealers0 -

All VWs have a long waiting list Lady K.
Tell her the standard red colour is BEAUTIFUL - see my VW Golf further up this thread.0 -

you only need to supply a driving licence, if you are buying the car on finance through the dealer
it is not a requirement under the scrappage scheme

Well we arent using finance. How strange. When I asked why they needed it, the girl said its not us, its the Government who wants a copy.
Oh, just read this on the scrappage site:
For the purposes of the scrappage scheme, the dealer needs to satisfy themselves that the person is who they say and is the registered keeper of the old vehicle. A photo driving licence or a Passport is likely to be the most convenient forms of ID to use for this purpose. The dealer may require a certain type of ID if, for example, you also require a finance deal to purchase the new vehicl0 -

as most manufacturers are now working on a built-to-order process, then you will find that most cars are on a 12wk+ lead time, so that would take you up to December and beyond
however once you order a car under the scrappage scheme, you application is only valid for 3m, and then you have to reapply. With most manufacturers saying that the scrappage scheme will run out mid October, then should you car be delayed in December, it may well be that your lose your scrappage allowance. How manufacturers deal with this, is yet to be seen

I think you will find its to do with money laundering any financial transaction buying a car ( large purchase) opening a bank account you need to prove who you are by the girl saying its the government supports this .
When you open a new savings account one of the questions is were have you got this money from !!0 -
