Great to see how the scheme is benefiting the UK economy then.

    They missed a trick.

If they'd offered a bigger incentive to cars built in the UK then I would have bought one and so would have many others.

The smaller cars are mainly built overseas and the vasy majority of uptake has been on small cars.

I am in the same position - newer 2nd hand car or a lower spec brand new one?!?

Has anyone managed to barter with Hyundai on the scrappage scheme? I am looking at the I20 but would really want it in silver and the charge for the paint takes me over budget. What are the chances of free metalic paint?

Im picking upa Skoda Fabia 1 tomorrow on scrappage deal. Paying cash so managed to get the aircon, mats and side door protection free above the £2500 with about an extra £150 discount on top of that.

The car Im scrapping is a mazda 121(fiesta shape) really on its last legs so a good deal I think.

Meant to say my purchase would be cash also. I have spoken on the phone to dealers but they will not budge. Is it different once they have you in front of them?

The dealers make more money if they sell you finance, & if you pay by credit card they usually charge you a fee, so I don't think they're going to do you any favours for paying by cash. If the dealer's offering 0% interest like Mazda, there might be room for negotiation then.
I had to phone a few dealers before I could find one that would sell me my i20, that was at the begaining of May, so I'd be very suprised if you could negotiate a deal. As the scrappage deal prices are only valid untill the end of June, I think Hynudai may put the prices up on small cars like many of the other dealers have or are going to.
    Next year we'll be millionaires!

  • I spoke with the SEAT dealer today and my car is scheduled to be built in Spain in week 29. We are in week 26.

It should arrive 3-4 weeks after that.

The majority of people do not care where a car is built - if they can get £2000 of a brand new one in exchange for a car worth a few hundred, they're going to take up the offer regardless of where the car may be built.
