Car Scrappage Scheme

hi guys im a long time reader of the forum and this is my first post!
i have a car eligable for this 2k scrap deal the problem i have is this though - i have seen 2 different adverts (both from arnold clark by the way!) for 09 plate cars, the first a kia pro ceed the advertised price was £11,000 my thinking was that with the scrappage it would be a great buy at £9k.
went to the kia dealership and the salesman fobbed me off with thats a mistake in the advert/we sold that 1 car we had in that deal and insisted kia had told the dealerships that anyone who wanted to use the scrappage deal would have to pay list price!
now my question to you good people on the moneysaving expert forum is this- can i look at the adverts people like arnold clark have advertising cars for a price (a new ford fiesta econetic for £9,999) and think that i will get £2k off the top ok?
looking on the net and reading this thread i can see some cars- again a ford fiesta listed at £7995 and then under scrappage deals it is listed as virtually the same price! its messing with my head!:rotfl:
I suggest what you do is email a few companies that you are interested in. When looking to buy my FORD, I emailed my local dealer and they were fantastic. I got a complete breakdown of everything from list price, to interest you will pay ( if you chose finance) to final purchase fees etc. Brilliant service, some other companies I contacted didn't bother though. But maybe pop in and have a chat with them, as they all have the facility to break it down for you! Hope that may help, I had the same problems with trying to get my head around thingsIf you would like the eg I had sent I can email it forward to the forum and you can see...?

On Ford there should be no confusion. They are one of the top 3 most generous when looking at scrappage.
Scrappage can't be applied where a car has already been registered - so that would explain any differences wif a dealer is advertising an '09 plate'..you simply need to ask if that is an already-registered car, or do they mean you'll be first registered owner and they will register it on an 09 plate when you buy it?
If you are first reg'd owner then you can apply scrappage with a slight tweak as below-
..the only differences with Ford where a customer wants to use the scrap scheme aginst an unregistered new car is that the dealers lose £275+vat (£316) of their total discount allowances where a scrappage car is involved, so a scrappage price should be around £1684 lower than their normal price for an unregistered car.
Anything more complicated than that would generally indicate a dealer trying a 'smoke & mirrors campaign!“Official Company Representative

After weeks of trying to arrange test drives and looking at cars and going over my finances with a fine toothcomb, we have decided to order an i10 comfort. I was initially more keen on the i20 but for all the driving we do it made sense just to get a nice new small car. I'm not expected to get it delivered until end August but I can live with that, despite it meaning i'll be carless for a month. The offer was just too good to turn down given that it would cost the best part of £500 just to get the old one through it's MOT.0

I've got a new honda Jazz 1.2 on order that should be arriving towards the end of July. For me, running a 15 year old car with repairs and MOT's 2 grand as a trade in is a great deal. I'm still having to fork out 8 grand for my new car which was more than I wanted to pay in the first place but I'm getting a great reliable car, which does not depreciate quickly, infact 2nd hand ones are going for more than 8k at the moment!
I've had to pay extra to get a silver car as the free colour 'red' would take up to 5 months to arrive (the honda plant has been closed from Jan - May) and the dealer feared that the scrappage allowance might have run out in that time.
On the whole I'm really pleased with it all (well I will be when I've got my shiny new car!)0 -
did you have to haggle to get this, or did you just get it on a normal deal? And also what finance did you take, pcp or ?
also to anyone who has bought a hyundai here, did any of you use pcp finance, because it seems the apr at hyundai is quite high at 18.9%?
I got the £2000 off as per normal and then haggled to get a few more £££ off.

my tax was due up at the end of the month and mot in the middle of july, so i really needed a car to be delivered in the next few weeks.
I really hummed and hawed about the clio extreme at 6k and the i20 at 6500 but in the end plumped for a corsa active 1.2 5 dr. if had been able to wait a few more weeks or months i might have gone for another make of car.
The vauxhall salesman had written down in the brochure the prices of a 1.2 active 5dr at 7916 on the road and delivery within a week. when i got there tonight the price had increased to 8516 in the road, he had "been looking at the wrong matrix"
Because I had hesitated so much the sales manager was brought into the act and even when the salesmans mistake was pointed out he wouldnt budge off the higher price - i even offered 8200. The only thing he would offer is i would get a full tank of petrol and floor mats. he wouldnt even give me the free 2 year service deal they were giving away Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon
In the end i had to take the lower spec life model which they had written down as 7216 and was now 7616. during the conversation, the model I wanted, a solid white, was "sold", whether this was part of the sales technique or was genuine, i dont know, the only one that was left in the life range was metallic black which then increased the price to 8011.
legally i suppose, as it wasnt a quote they were within their rights but morally i feel a bit miffed. dont get me wrong, i like the car and will get it next Mon/Tues but just that edge of delight has been taken off the experience and i have the niggling feeling i have been traded up when i didnt really want to.2023 wins - zilch, nada, big fat duck. quack quack,0 -
But you only needed to have the tax and MOT at the time of an order, not the delivery of the car. In fact they could be 14 days out of date at the time of the order.
Is it possible to cancel as it doesnt seem to be the car you want anyway. Or did your other choices have too long a delivery? The price seems ok though.0 -
Hi all, im looking at getting a new car but not via the scrappage scheme and came across this -
http://www.sytner.co.uk/kings-chrysler/manchester/new-cars/new-car-offers/chrysler_sebring.aspx
which states its £10,350 off the list price plus £2000 scrappage which would make this terrific value at £7,450 (they are quoting a list price of over £18k !!!) the deal ends june 30th.
I know that Chrysler has problems but with Fiat on board they should be ok. I think Chrysler are trying to off load there larger models prior to Fiat taking over.
Hope this helps someone, Im considering going for it myself (shame my car is 9yrs old Doh!)0
