Car Scrappage Scheme

Hi guys,
To keep you updated.. I was informed by Ford today that two weeks ago, choosing your own registration plate had stopped. You can no longer do it! However, I have still requested that as of when the lists come through, which I still know happens... please allocate me a reg similar to my name, initials. An ex car dealer told me, it's very easy to do even if you can't chose yourself. If they are nice enough they can allocate you one that you would like. So guys your number plate fate is in the dealers hands..like everything else0 -

total price- £6795
deposit - £100
balance - £4695
any comments?
As i fully expected the dealer called me on thursday and told me he made a mistake woth the paperwork and undercharged by £200. Tbh i'm not really that bothered as i appeared to be the only person on here to be getting it for £4795 as opposed to £4995. However my paperwork still shows £4695 outstanding. Do you think when i go to pay balance and pick car up i could haggle a bit on something else.E.g they offer first two services and first MOT for £300-maybe try and knock off £50 or so off this, throw in free mats?? Would anyone else try this??

Well I have just got back from picking up my brand new Ford Mondeo 2L Edge!! Used my old Vauxhall Corsa as scrappage and as the car was already a good price at Bristol St Motors Birmingham, with scrappage and employee (Ford/Land Rover) discount I got it for £9000.00!!!!! So I am one happy customer of the scrappage scheme, shows there are bargains to be had !!:j0

Sounds like a real bargain, how much would this cost a non employee with scrappage?Next year we'll be millionaires!0 -
Employee discount was about £1500.00 to £2000.00 so depends really. The price on the car was £12995.00 then scrappage off that then discount (the ford employee discount is family and friends so bear that in mind in case you know anyone who works at Ford, Land Rover, Jaguar etc) The manufacturers on the road price for that model starts at £17500.00 ish so Bristol st had a good price on it!! Most Ford dealers are doing some good deals as they have got quite a large stock of 09 models and as the 59 plate is out September (ish) they need to sell, sell, sell!! Happy car hunting x0

Cheaper the car, bigger the discount (percentage).
I decided on a mazda 2, 0% finance and 2k of list price0 -

how did you get it for so cheap?0 -
I think you need to give people a bit more credit
Ive ended up with £5k off the car Im buying. £2k for a car worth about £300 and the rest from haggling/going through a broker. We arent all daft as brushes. The scheme has just given a lot of us the incentive to get a new car for the first time.
The little really inexpensive cars like the Hyundais certainly wouldnt have had a margin big enough to haggle £2k off.
what car did you end up with?0 -
Ive been looking at a volvo c30. The list price is £15745 and then £1k is paid by the government as the scrappage allowance. A further £3027 is paid by Volvo meaning that no deposit has to be paid so a total £4027 is knocked off.
Looking at the fuel consumption (they say the maximum is 72mpg), tax band (£35 for the next year and exempt the year after), and not having to have the car MOT'd for the next 3 years this seems like a good proposition. What does everyone else think?0
