Car Scrappage Scheme

Spoke to someone from the scrappage department and she has confirmed that Tax need only be valid at date of order not date of collection. Obviously you would need to make arrangements of how to get the car to the dealer if you have declared SORN etc.0

Thanks for that, that has scuppered DealDrivers little plan then..0

Can I just ask, did you order from Taggarts, and what sort of timescale did they quote you? I'm finding it hard even to place an order at full price down south - I don't think the dealers can be bothered with the low profit margins!
It's giving me a real headache.
pixie-i'm assuming that was meant for me. Taggarts were the source of my problems. All the other dealers bar them were quoting july/aug even into sept for 1.2classic. 3 times i checked with salesman and he told me EACH time my 20th June mot would not be an issue. I told him we NEEDED 2 cars on the road. Basically this was incompetence at best. I have since had my deposit refunded from them and a letter from the guys manager apologising for his salesmans conduct. Where are you? Arnold Clarke,Phoenix,Taggarts all quoting me round about august about a week ago. I have just ordered with my closest dealer. They have quoted same timescale as the rest but i've now to get a MOT anyway. Makes no odds to me now.0 -
Ive emailed the dealer with the new government guidelines, will see what he replies.
MEANWHILE, Ive never had a new car before, the invoice/order has arrived today and is showing £400 more than I expected - "for delivery" - does this happen for all new cars or is this a con. I was told free delivery - the dealer is through a broker and over 100 miles away - so does this mean delivery of the car to the dealer?
Amendment *red cheeks* I emailed the guy, he rang me saying the delivery had been included originally and as he talked I could see where Id gone wrong. One big mistake was Id taken 10% discount off the gross price and of course that made a difference in the total price as the VAT was much higher. On top of that Id guessed at the price Id get for my part exchange (on top of scrappage) and they had given me £250 lower. I have apologised!0 -
I'm a bit miffed as my car was registered in late September 1999, just 24 days after the 31 August cutoff, and as far as I can tell it is not a rolling ten years. So apart from Nissan, I don't think my car is eligible for the scrappage scheme.
However if only £1000 of the £2000 (I know some others are offering more, but let's keep it simples. We need a meerkat smiley :rotfl:) is coming from the Government, then effectively the manufactures are discounting new cars by a £1000.
Has anyone tried going into a dealership and tried haggling from a starting position of £1000 off the price? And if so how successful were you?0 -

I spoke to the helpline again and she explained that when you have placed your order you can get your car scrapped at an authorised ELV Scrap Yard to get the Certificate of Destruction - HOWEVER this MUST be organised by the dealer.0 -
So we could get shot of the car locally you mean and just give the cert to the dealer?0

Essentially yes - provided the dealer arranges it for you - there are stations all over the country.
On another note - finally spoke to someone at the dealership I have been dealing with that has some brains. I explained about my tax and MOT running out imminently (almost re-taxed my car and was going to swallow the cost of a months tax) when I called and said can they not arrange for me to take to an authorised scrap yard to which the person responded "just bring it in to us and we will sort it out for you"!!!!!! When I was talking to the first person and was explaining about getting SORN and storing the car off road (and so was obvious I was intending to drive the car) why didn't they say that to me!!!!!0 -
I was just about to place an order for a Mazda today using the scrappage scheme, then dealer told me they need the old car a few days before receiving the new car, so they can scrap it, get certificate of destruction, before they can register and release the new car. So would be without a car for approx 3 - 5 working days.
Has anyone else encoutered this issue with a Mazda dealer. I called Mazda HQ, but they can't answer the issue and say it is up to the dealer.
We have ordered the new Mazda 3 this week from our local dealer. They have arranged for us to take our car and pick the new one up on the same day. We are the first customer to use the scheme with them but said the scrappage firm would let them know what day they would collect our car so that we can take the new one at the same time. Next Friday is the day:T0 -
