Car Scrappage Scheme
Comments
-
I thought the car dealer sites were saying that they had deals with various scrappage companies who they would issue instructions to to pick up the car locally and scrap it. Surely it wouldnt make sense for dozens of people to dump old bangers on a showroom forecourt? And again, how can they drive those bangers legally if the MOT has run out and quite clearly it says on the official site that the MOT only need be valid at the time of order.
I dont think even the dealers know what they are talking about.0 -
Has anybody got the 1.2 Classic i10 in solid red for £4795 (i.e. offer on that specific model in conjunction with scrappage scheme). I was led to believe you couldn't use both but my paperwotk show-
total price- £6795
deposit - £100
balance - £4695
any comments?0 -

May i add to this. We phoned 3 to 4 dealers on this and they all told us price would be £4995 for 1.2 classic solid red and all they were making on this was handling charge of £250. Now if you look at Taggarts in Motherwell website they have an FAQ and it clearly states you can use scrappage scheme with other offers they have on(unless they recently changed it). Now something doesn't stack up here surely? Either the guy who i have just ordered from at £4795 is making a loss or (surely not) or the others at £4995 are making more than just handling?0 -
Nice to see how this UK Taxpayer funded scheme is benefiting manufacturing jobs in Germany (see above about VW Flying), now that the German Govt is scheduled to shut Vauxhall UK down. THANKS Gordon for your leadership!
Firstly, even if the cars are mostly manufactured elsewhere, there are still many, many thousands of UK employees across all the companies. In addition to that, there's a knock on effect...servicing, insurance, car washes etc. And what about all the office staff? You can't just manufacture a car and then magically find it on the road with a buyer...there are thousands of people working in offices who will actually have something to do because cars are being sold.0 -

Sounds like S.Korea is the biggest winner :mad::mad::mad:
There again, if North Korea decides to export some Instant Sunshine across the border there may not be any cars for a while...........

OK - I will get to the bottom of this tax situation - I have a contact number and e-mail address (have sent e-mail and called a few times now) - should have an official government response soon!0

Not ignorant at all....the vast proportion of value from these sales is going abroad and mainly to the Far East.

Just been to the direct.gov website and have now seen the following amendment:
"have a current tax disc when the order for the new vehicle is placed"
looks like question has been answered - valid tax disc at time of order NOT when you receive the new car.
Looking at the page there has been a few updates now - inclusion of the offical query e-mail address is now also included.0
