Car Scrappage Scheme

Stupid question perhaps, but when finance packages, etc are advertised as 20% deposit required, would the money from scrapping a car count towards the deposit?
And if not, would you require 20% of the total price, or 20% of the price minus the scrappage price?0 -
I just wanted to add my tupence worth to this topic pls be kind I'm fairly new to this and I nearly always send my posts to cyber space
I work in the motor trade and work for a very well known brand, not sure if Im allowed to say incase I get in trouble :lipsrseal Today I have done about 20 of these scrappage schemes and without getting into technicalities the brand I work for get loads of "incentives" for selling cars , so we dont make much profit on new cars (in most cases only about £200) but if we keep volume high , sell the less desirable models the dealership as a whole gets big amounts of money from manufacturer, these can be used to add extra discount to cars so that we dont sell the car out at negative amounts. it also means that we can take in less desirable part exchanges that we have to sell out for peanuts or send to auction but still give the customer a fair price and beable to pay over heads etc. This scrappage deal for us as a dealership actually means that we loose out , and struggle to make any profit on deals. As for the actual rules and regulations for the scheme go we have to follow rules given to us by manufacturer , which up untill about the 18th of the month were as clear as mud ! Anyhoo I think the point I was trying to make from my post is that everyone thinks its a pretty crappy idea and that its only dealerships that are benefitting from it and I just sorta wanted to put my opinion across. Vent a bit steam as I have been sitting sifting thru scrappage paperwork all day !!Lol
xThanks to MSE for making it possible for me save to buy my new flat , yay !!

Id assume also that the 20% would be based on the money you will owe for the car, after the scrappage deal.0

Jen - Id go for the Yaris as it will surely be a better resell in future than the 100? But if you dont plan to do a lot of driving in the future ...........
Flea, thanks for that, I dont feel so bad about the 10 week wait now0 -

Thanks for the reply, Hethmar, not planning to resell, however, will keep it as long as I can drive. Actually, one of the comparison sites gave a fairly good resale - but I don't believe them. I think this is a car like the Micra I currently drive, but I wish it were more basic. I don't need Air con, and it's just something else to go wrong and have to have serviced.

Are there no other choices then if you dont want air con and the extras? I dont think air con is subject to going wrong much Jen. I have it in the skoda and its now 8 years old and never been a problem and is very handy if its a hot day but you dont want the windows open.
I think your heart is with the 1.2 Hyundai- check them out.
Im going the other way - after all my life having cars that just about get from A to B, this will be our very first new car and blow it, Im splurging out - park assist and the whole shebangVWs last a long time, so hopefully we will get our moneys worth and its so easy to get in and out of, as its the Golf Plus and higher

Jennifer...I haven't read all of your posts so maybe you've already done this, but you should definitely give the i10 a test drive. I loved it
(saying that, I've been driving a 1994 Corsa for 2 yrs, so anything would have felt better i guess lol)
The boot isn't the largest, but you'll see for yourself if it's large enough for your needs.0 -
Just picked up this thread from a google search so not read it all. Honda definately asking for tax disc as well. I did originally tell her it was untaxed as I thought they would be trying to claim it back but they just need a copy. Also asked for insurance as well. She couldn't answer why but it's no skin off my nose to provide that.0

Yes, its a bit mad as they say they only need the MOT at time of order yet they are asking for the tax up to the time of delivery. Doesnt make any sense. You cant drive the car without either of those.
I think with most of us, this is probably the first new car weve had so anything seems brilliant when its new0
