Oh no, that's dissapointing! I didn't even know they were allowed to change the price you pay once you've placed the order! the Cheek!!!

Typical, tax payer funds makers to shift stock, makers milk the tax payer by increasing prices..no surprise there.

The website still gives £7195 as the list price for an ES. At 8k after scrappage, there's a lot of other choices. It seems unlikely to me that the increase is on the list price.

The French govt has reduced VAT on all restaurant meals from 15 down to 5 percent, the German govt is running a redundancy protection scheme where employers are given a bung so that they retain workers on short time instead of making them redundant (scheme will run for 2 years). Note that these schemes encourage job security in the countries where the taxpayers are funding them.

So there are some really useful things Gordon & co could have done instead of this half-cocked scrappage scheme.

Surely they cant do that if you have a contract with them to buy at the price you agreed on? Do you have the paperwork at the original price and did you pay a deposit?

Again, no mention of the tax disc - does the fact SORN is no longer allowed mean the car must have tax or not - if not, why are so many car dealers asking to see this?

Well if SORN is no longer allowed then the vehicle will have to be taxed - it isn't legal to have an un-taxed, un-SORN vehicle

Just rang my VW dealer re tax disc. He tells me car has to be taxed when new car is delivered. it mustnt be SORN. I guess as I said before, the idea is to remove roadworthy cars from the road - bit annoying though as we have 2 cars and OH could have used mine for the time being so saving tax and insurance. Actually, I guess I can cancel the insurance on the scrappage car but as thats up in August I dont spose they will give much back as a refund.

It doesnt make any sense though as clearly you dont need an MOT cert beyond the date of order - so the car cant legally go on the road anyway, so whats the point of having it taxed?

robram, sorry about your predicament - I guess the manufacturers have allocated just so many cars to this scheme. I know the VW dealer said something about they had only 50 cars allocation at the dealership?

Ive just noticed a number of manufacturers have updated their sites re scrappage and are asking for a tax disc now, including Ford, Vauxhall, Peugeot and Hyundai.
